OT: Chiefs vs Chargers, Henne starting

Submitted by PopeLando on January 3rd, 2021 at 4:32 PM

I don't have a horse in this race, but the Cheifs are resting their starters and Chad Henne is starting for the first time since 2014, in place of a resting Mahomes.

And he just threw a TD pass. His first since 2014. For his career, he now has 59 TDs and 63 INT.

Everything is still Chad Henne's fault

Chiefs have a great system, draft well, and maximize talent. Brett Veach and Andy Reid have done a great job there. Don't forget about Mike Danna.

Fortunately I never became a Lions fans and my two favorite teams since childhood are, the Chiefs (Derrick Thomas, Christian Okoye - a LB-sized RB) and Bills (Bruce Smith) who are the AFC's top seeds this year.

Chiefs win and Harbaugh takes over for newly-fired coach Anthony Lynn. Chiefs lose and Harbaugh stays at Michigan and Anthony Lynn is retained. It’s all in Henne’s hands.

Apart of me actually believes this.

my theory is he met with the chargers this week and accepted an offer behind the scenes. The “end of season. I’m on vacation. Waiting for nfl offer.” Noise Was all just to buy time up to this point.

plenty of plot holes in my theory though.

I heard a story about someone asking a Colts coach why they never gave Peyton's backup any run with the one's in practice as a backup plan.  The response was something like "If #18 goes down, our backup plan is we're fucked".

It's great to be the backup of a star.  No one is calling for you to start, and, if you do start, no one expects you to do much

EDIT-Found the original and it's so much better.  From Jaw's book...

"Jon asked Tom why he wasn't giving some snaps to Peyton's backups. [offensive coordinator Tom] Moore is a man of few words, but when he talks, those words have weight. He looked us both in the eye, paused for a moment, then said in that gravelly voice of his, "Fellas, if '18' goes down, we're fucked. And we don't practice fucked.""

Awesome seeing his family in the stands. I’m sure he really wishes he was a starter but backing up Mahomes for millions is a pretty sweet gig.

Henne was the quarterback when I first started getting into Michigan football as a child. He means a lot to me and I'm really happy that he's getting an opportunity, even in a mop up game like this.

I remember thinking he would be the future of the Dolphins and I would have to make a tough choice between rooting for him or Brady every year. Obviously that didn't turn out, but 14 years as mostly a backup is still a great career. Collected a ring last year and will have another shot this year as well.

Maybe he goes into coaching when he finally retires? Spending 3 years with a clipboard around Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes is a heck of a connection.
