OT- Chechen Bombers' Sister Speaks from Jersey
Alina Tsarnaeva , sister of the Chechen bombers, lives in NJ and was interviewed through her door. She claims to have not spoken to her brothers for a long time and the Chechen bombers were not accepting of her husband because he was not muslim. What a terrible tragedy all around and I hope they catch Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev (her brother) alive... so he can give some answers for why he would do such a thing to innocent people.

Also thought it was pretty crazy that NY Post and other news organizations were mis-identifying random people as the bombers. Too many trigger-happy journalists trying to break the story first w/o much fact-checking.
Mod edit: Leaving this one up, but from now on new discussion should be kept in the "Boston Terrible Things Open Thread" (or here, obviously). JGB.

I often find myself wondering what Kilgore Trout would have to say about these terror attacks that target innocent lives.

The reporters there were awful. The uncle came across well despite being asked borderline offensive questions in a combative manner.

The kid I felt bad for is the guy (or one of the handful of guys) who got mis-identified as the terrorist. Apparently, this 17 year old kid, Salah Barhoun, showed up with his running gear and stuff in a gym bag at the marathon since he thought he could just sign-up and run on the day of. He ended up watching for a bit then leaving early and then all of a sudden his FB started to blow up with people blaming him for this. He also ended-up on the front cover of the NY Post with his face circled in red and ID'ed as the terrorist.

What about that Sunil kid who disappeared a few weeks ago? I saw stories insinuating that he was connected because he has a hard-to-spell name and is about their age. The poor kid is probably in serious trouble himself (you'd have to imagine he ran away from his life, had an accident or, more likely, committed suicide) and the media goes on desecrating his name and his family.

Totally awful for his parents. He's disappeared, now suddenly he's a terrorist. Whoops, nope, he's not.
Hopefully they slept through it.

Perhaps MLaw06 can advise Salah on a good lawyer and sue the NY Post.
Those were my thoughts... yeah, it sucks to be him, but a good lawyer could likely get lost wages as damages for a lifetime of missed work opportunities thanks to this, in addition to emotional damages (sorry if I'm butchering the legal jargon). And it's not like the NY Post doesn't have the money to settle something like that.
I don't think the lost wages thing would hold up. You'd have to prove that he has actually lost out on something. It'd be like him not getting into school or a job and in the course of conversation mentioning this incident. Even then you'd still need more causation. He could probably get a decent settlment though from any decent lawyer though.
the Saudi victim who was, according to media reports (CBS and the like), chased down and tackled by a bystander before having his name blasted as a suspect. Imagine being a victim of this bombing, wounded and in a complete state of shock, trying to run away, to have some jackass chase you down and tackle you. He's still in the hospital, and as of yesterday was still being smeared throughout the web by conspiracy theorists and pundits (Michael Savage in particular) as behind this attack.

because whenever I'm setup, the next thing I logically do is
- Rob a 7-11
- Shoot a police officer
- Steal a car; take the owner hostage
- Drive the owner around town and withdraw a lot of his money from ATMs
- Flee from police throughout town while shooting and throwing IEDs at police
Leave to the Man to hold a guy down

Anyone else think there's a chance that they're possibly being framed? Not a conspiracy theorist in the least but this situation just seems bizarre to me.....
April 19th, 2013 at 12:04 PM ^
Even if they were framed, they're obvoiusly still freakin insane because they're shooting cops and throwing IEDs around town

We need to stop looking for conspiracies. I am, by no means, saying dont question our government. But if you actively seek a conspiracy, you will ultimately find a reason for one.
The horrific acts need to be taken at face value. Terrible people doing terrible things.
I think Occam's Razor applies to most conspiracy theories.
April 19th, 2013 at 12:15 PM ^
Yeah, I agree it's a bizarre situation...
....because they caused it to be a bizarre situation. You really think the government would set up this complicated of a scenario? Please. I think you're giving the government's abilities little too much credit

I am a conspiracy theorist and I think this is actually just to crazy guys killing people...
This instance actual highlights how absurd Newtown and Aurora were in the nice quick clean wrap-up; real life events are much more messy...

This statement is an absolute slap in the face to so many good people. If anything was ever worth a ban...
aren't appropriate material to post on MGoBlog. There are thousands of other places better for a discussion like that, I suggest you try one of those forums. Return from exile in one month.
There are few things in this world I loathe more than conspiracy theorists. Look if you wanna believe Obama is a Kenyian born Muslim hell bent on destroying America, fine that doesn't really hurt anybody. But 9/11 truthers and people claming atrocities like this government conspracies piss me off to no end.
April 19th, 2013 at 10:59 PM ^
You serious Clark?
That's just what the government WANTS you to know though. What they DON'T want us to know is that FBI agents actually gave these random guys on the street backpacks, and told them to drop them on the sidewalks in certain places. Why would the FBI instruct them to do this? So that, in the aftermath of the event, they could track the "bad guys" down, all while building up public distrust in Chechnya. After capturing or killing the second brother, they will then declare that Chechnya has attacked the United States, and we will formally declare war on the Chechnyans. America will be behind this, because of the suddenness of the circumstances. We will invade Chechnya, which will inevitably draw the Russians into the fight, which is what the FBI wants anyway, so we will finally be able to conquer Russia and tap into their vast oil resources, and then we'll be like "Forget you China, we've added Russia's nukes to our arsenal and we're coming for you next." So we'll attack China, obliterate them, and then have complete control of the world, since we'll also nuke North Korea on the way.
So you see? It's all very simple. It's all for oil and power and nukes and George Bush probably had something to do with it. Plus, you can't disprove anything I just said.
