OT: Best A2 restaurants for out-of-towners

Submitted by FabFiver5 on
I'm looking for suggestions for the best place to take a friend of mine who will be visiting from Texas for the UM/WMU game this weekend. Now, before you throw the "THISWASPOSTEDTWOWEEKSAGO! STOPPOSTINGDOUBLE!" at me, know that I'm taking all suggestions, not just ones of the American order for someone who's stepping into our country for the first time. I work in A2, but don't venture downtown to eat all that often. Besides Zingermann's, Blue Nile and the Chop House, what other hidden gems lie within? And no, Blimpy Burger won't be her thing, so we'll be skipping that too. Thanks.

Sava's restaurant is a new gem you may not know of, easy on the wallet and good food. Relatively new to Ann Arbor (opened 2007) and just expanded to take the old space that used to be Zanzibar last week, it has great comfort Americana type food, as well as a few hidden gems. The chicken pecan sandwich (!) is a MUST. Also, I would avoid The Fleetwood if your friend isn't keen on blimpy burger, Fleetwood is in that same tier of great food but colorful locale. If you want to play it safe, Cottage Inn is always reliable. ALSO! If you make it in anytime not on Saturday or at night on Friday, The Brown Jug might have the most absurdly lengthy menu in A2, good food and a fantastic atmosphere.

I'd cosign Prickly Pear, Red Hawk, and Eve Moving away from Downtown... Zingerman's Roadhouse is an option. Far away from downtown but(Barely)in Ann Arbor is Palm Palace (used to be Charley's before that LaShish) for Middle Eastern food on Carpenter and Washtenaw.

was great last week. I've been there a few times and have been very satisfied with the service, quality, and the food is authentic. It looks like a dive, but it's average to middle of the road restaurant. Not high end. Very good IMO.
