Opening Game Ticket Giveaway

Submitted by joegeo on August 21st, 2021 at 2:26 PM

What: Four 40 yard line tickets to the Western Michigan game on September 4th. I'll give away two pairs of tickets.

Story: These season tickets have been in my family since the 1920s when my grandfather attended Michigan. My Dad, also a Michigan alumnus, has attended games since the 1950s. I have gone to games since 1990, but now I live in New York and generally only get out to a single game each year. He is now, unfortunately, living with Alzheimers and can no longer attend games. To celebrate my father and fathers in general, I've decided to donate or gift most of my tickets for the coming years on his behalf. The MGoBlog community will be the recipient of tickets to one of the games each year.

Requirements and Rules:
1) You attend the game with your father OR you are a father and attend with your son or daughter.
2) If you win, you make a donation to NAMI: The National Alliance on Mental Illness, a cause important to my father and our family. Donate whatever you feel comfortable with.
3) Enter by replying to this thread. Deadline is midnight at the end of Monday, August 23rd.
4) One entry per person.
5) I'll use a random number generator to pick two winners of two tickets each and announce those winners in a new thread at noon on Tuesday, August 24th.
6) Winners will have 24 hours to acknowledge their win and claim their prize or I move on to new winners.

Mods were able to put me in touch via email with the winners the last two times I did this. Would be much appreciated if they could do the same this year! At that point, I can transfer tickets online with an email address.

I’m a father and that donation to the NAMI is awesome. I’m going to donate regardless if I win or not. Joegeo is a great guy and I’ve never met you! Lol

Love this.  I’m a school counselor so NAMI is an organization that I’m very familiar with.  Wonderful idea!

I am a father and I’d love to take my son.  Thanks for offering to do this for the UM fan base.

This is a wonderful thing you are doing "joegeo", and I'm going to make a donation to NAMI in appreciation of your giveaway and in honor of your father.

I've lost a very dear Aunt and a cousin to early onset Alzheimer's (also a few other dementia victims I've personally known), and I would guess most here have similar experiences they could tell.

Thank you and wishing you, your dad, and your entire family the best as your journey continues.

(BTW, I already have season tickets so I'm not going to enter the drawing)

Kudos to you for doing this every year. I didn’t win them last year and NAMI still got my money. I’ll throw my hat in the ring again and will probably donate either way. Thanks for the annual donation reminder!

The NAMI donation is a great idea. My father is beginning to suffer the effects of dementia brought on by Parkinson's, so such things have become near and dear to me as well in the last few years in particular.

I am a father who lost the only father figure I had ever known to Alzheimer's, my grandfather. He was a Detroit native and a Catholic Central alumni. Heck of a man. I'd love to take my son to the game.

I'm in.

I love that you're doing this. I don't need the tickets, because of my awesome dad, so I'll just make a donation to NAMI. (I've got my own struggles with serious mental illness!)

My dad has been taking me to Michigan football games since I was 4 - we've been sharing season tickets for over 25 years now. In the spirit of celebrating fathers, here's the two of us!

I would love to enter myself and my father. Lifelong M fans from Toledo. Dad is 55, never been to a Michigan game. I also have never been to an M game and was hoping to go to my first last year but ya know.

Either way it's great that you're doing this and hopefully I'll be seeing my first game in person this year at some point! ?〽️

I'm a father, and would go with my 20 year old son Kyle. We usually try to go to at least one game a year. It has been a wonderful bonding time to drive together from the Chicago area, stay overnight Friday, walk to the game, eat, and head back home. Also, I am very familiar with NAMI, and think this is a great cause. I have close relatives that have real struggles with mental health, and this organization is a great one to help.

Count me in for the drawings.

A donation will be made regardless of outcome.

Just when I was losing interest in this board, something great like this happens and it totally redeems itself!

I'm a father and a son who was already looking to take my son and his grandad to a game this fall. I'd be happy to donate to this excellent cause as well!

Thank you for the opportunity.

I am a Lifelong Michigan fan. My 12 year old son is playing football for his middle school team this year. Attending a game at "The Big House" and soaking in the atmosphere together would be awesome as he continues to learn and develop his game.
