An Open Letter to Demar Dorsey

Much like most of you, I feel awful about the whole situation. I felt the strong urge to reach out to Demar and wish him the best of luck and let him know that the fan base was pulling for him.

I will be combining everyone's thoughts in one letter and sending it to Demar. I will also produce a video (my first MGoBlog exclusive) which includes the most powerful quotes attributed to the MGoPoster.

Before you say what you want to say, here are some guidelines:

Please keep this on topic as possible, it will help me tremendously.

Attribute yourself at the end of your response ( -VideoTom)

Keep it short and sweet. The MGoCommunity is huge.

Thanks to everyone in advance for participating!

He's still considered a "prospective athlete," is he not?  Even if he isn't coming to Michigan?

We all get those emails from Compliance every year telling us what we can and can't do.  They even include them in season ticket packages.  You can read booster guidelines here:

http://www.mgoblue.com/compliance/mich-compliance-whoisabooster.html

Pertinent part:

Specifically, "boosters" may not:

  • Call, write or e-mail a prospective student-athlete or the prospect's parents, legal guardians, relatives, coaches, or counselors for purposes of athletics recruitment

That's what this is.  Do not proceed.

I, like so many Wolverines, was looking forward to the "No Fly Zone" being in place for your years at Michigan.  I am saddened by the way the university handled the situation, and wish you the best of luck.  I am further saddened and embarassed by the media's response to your recruitment.  They are sad little men in a dying industry, and they have become very desperate.

Always keep one eye on the future, and make sure what you do in the short run puts in a position to achieve your long term goals.  Be a young man of character and values.  It seems like you've been doing that lately, and I hope and pray that you have continued growth and boundless success.

Always keep your enthusiasm for the game. Just know that all the wolverine fans I know still consider you a wolverine. If it never got dark, there would never be a sunrise. Keep your head up and your life straight, things will work out.

Long after your playing days are done, you will need to rely on a good education.

You talked of having a 3.0 before falling in with the wrong crowd.

Make your future football decsions based on the quest for a sound education.

If not you will be one of many who made much but squandered more.

As a Michigan alum, I am embarassed and saddened by the way our institution handled your admissions process. Simply stated, the way it was handled was not right, and upsets me, especially because of my own incredible admiration for my alma mater and the standards it should uphold, which were not met in this instance. The university's admissions office reversing course in the manner they did was wrong.

That being said, although it is unfortunate you will not be joining the Michigan family, I know I will always be a fan of yours and wish you success wherever your path takes you. You have been making positive steps in your life in the past few years, and I hope you continue on that path. Best of luck in the future, and don't let this hiccup deter you as you journey toward reaching your goals.

Best,

Mike

I am one of the many thousand Michigan football fans who were thrilled at the prospect of seeing that special Demar Dorsey energy light up the Big House.  It is hard to accept that you will never wear the winged helmet... never touch the M Club banner.  You have not been treated fairly, but I hope that you understand that this had nothing to do with the fans or the coaching staff.  Please know that we will be pulling for you all the way because you will always be part of the Wolverine family.  Stay on the path that you are on and use your incredible natural talents to make us proud.

Like many Michigan fans I wish you would have been allowed to wear the Maize and Blue.  I thought you could have been the NEXT great Michigan player. So just don't go to a Big Ten school.

We were all pulling for you man, sadly the idiots in the admissions office had different plans. You will always be a Wolverine to me. Best of luck in college and the NFL and shut up all the stupid media people that tried to disrespect you. Will still be pulling for you wherever you end up going.

Please refrain from any negative comments against U of M. I understand the frustration and personally agree with it, but it none of those should be in anyway included.

Other than that, great stuff already! I'm hoping for 100.

Always know that the fans and coaching staff where really pulling for you and we will always consider you part of the Michigan family. I am embarrassed how this was handled by both the school and the media. Throughout this whole process you have proven to be a person of great character. I still hope to see you don the winged helmet one day. However, if that does not happen, i would like to wish you the best of luck in your future. I would also like to thank you for your contribution to my ipod. O LET DO IT!

Your enormous football talent and your determination to stay on the right track and make something out of yourself are bigger than any setback.  We all look forward to the day that this disappointment turns to well-deserved success -- bjk.

It's been real. Tough. Saddening. Disheartening. I get the feeling you been here before though, through yet another lesson of life, that the sun isn't always shining and sometimes you have to make your way through the storms. I don't believe in coincidences, I believe it was fate this experience happened to you, but I also know nothing is written in stone that you yourself do not write. Make your way, dude. Continue to rise up. I take your own words, the first time I heard you speak, and I say them back to you:

O Let Do It!

Good luck in your future, strive to do what's best and what's right. God bless...

Fine

Demar,

Knowledge is power. You got to keep your future in mind when making decisions. Maybe a little extra work in the classroom might have paid off. You need to work hard to achieve your goals, such as playing football at the University of Michigan. That goal may be gone now, but you still have a bright future ahead of you.

You're just the type of football player we need to be a Wolverine. I cannot express how bad I feel about the situation Michigan has put you into. I wish you all the best and will be rooting for you no matter where you go.

Sincerely,

Jeff G
