Open House open thread

Submitted by UM4ME on

For those of us who can't make it today (like me, stuck at work for a LONG day), please, everyone, post your thoughts on the open house. I'm listening to Sam and Ira on TKA and wishing I was there.

So is the consensus now that Michigan has the best football facilities of any program in the country?  Is there anyone better?

I mean, in the past couple years we've had:

- Big House renovations

- New weight room / conditioning facilities

- The Glick

Just came from during lunch, 12-1.  Pictures coming ASAP.  Go check it out if you can, the lines are nonexistant, especially if you take the stairs.

EDIT:  as promised, PICTURES!  If someone can suggest a better way of presenting them, please let me know and I'll be happy to oblige.  This is just a dump of all 180 I took from inside and outside of the stadium.  I'll also be happy to try to explain what some of them are if necessary.  Enjoy!

EDIT EDIT:  now with major slideshowage:

"Legacy" picture/posters/wall hangings? Did they let you go down past the suite further?  I think they're getting more lax as the day went on...they were making us take the elevators this morning, and now I'm hearing stairs...

It's funny to see the progress they're making today.  The "M" was all silver/white when I was there...and now it's half maize.

And you have a much better camera than I do...lol.

1.  Couldn't go further down the hall than that, sorry.  You could on the 4th floor though, since that's where the "lounge" type area was

2.  Elevators were still available but packed going up, so I did a floor at a time with the stairs--3, 5, then 4

3.  Got them painting the seats' M and the outline.  You can kind of follow the progress I saw to the point where they finished half the M.  In some of the pics you can also see the numbers on the seats and how far apart they are

4.  I brought my couple months old RebelXS EOS that I got for stuff like this, my first DSLR, it was worth it

Oh ok.  They were all on the same floor between some of the suites.  I think the Bo one was the first one closest to the stairs, and the rest were as I proceeded down the hall, if that makes sense.

and the wait for the elevators wasn't worth the convenience, partly because one of the elevators wasn't running.  My friend and I waited 5-10 minutes and gave up and took the stairs.

Also, they let us go maybe halfway down the hallway on the suite level.

Is the exterior finished as well? I drove down State a couple weeks ago and the west facade still needed a few finishing touches.

The whole place is first-class all the way.  Absolutely beautiful.  I'm Sgt. Wolverine, and I approve of this construction.  I can't afford to enjoy it on gameday, but I still approve of it.

On a related note, I had my picture taken (at different times) by both the Detroit news and the AP, so keep an eye out for that.

I want all you 'jerks' who can buy seats in the towers to post more photos come Sept. 4. I can't wait to get that perspective of looking out over such a mass of humanity, all there for the same purpose, around 100 thousand Michigan fans with their fists raised to the Victors, all there in solidarity to root on the team. Brings a tear to my eye.
