If I live in an apartment, is someone breaking in not as bad as breaking into a house? Is it house - apartment - dorm? Is that the hierarchy? Most people get murdered/assaulted/sexually assaulted by people they know, not random strangers.

two teammates getting in a fight is not a good thing and can probably get you suspended. Pulling a knife on someone during that fight... that's a different story.
Was he claiming that the other guy was trying to kill him? If your first instinct when you get in a fight with a teammate, no matter who started it, is to resort to lethal means... that's a problem.
