OHL swipes another Michigan Hockey commit
Was a Michigan commit MT @SeanLafortune now official, former St. Michaels Buzzers D Jared Walsh has signed with the Mississauga Steelheads.
College hockey coaches have the hardest task when it comes to recruiting. They aren't just fighting against other schools, they're fighting junior hockey leagues off. This is the second commit of the 2014 class lost, and the second player taken away by the Steelheads.

FUCK!
Way to wait until a day AFTER they've plated the page with the writeup on you and the photo of you that your coach sent us. Here's the blurb from Jason Paul in HTTV Hoops-Hockey:
From the team that brought us the likes of Andrew Cogliano, Louie Caporusso, and Brandon Burlon, Michigan will tap the St. Michael’s pipeline again to bring in defenseman JARED WALSH. The 5’11”/175 lbs rear guard had an impressive rookie season with the Buzzers with four goals and 26 assists in 75 games. “While not as highly touted as some of his predecessors to make the move from Toronto to Ann Arbor, Walsh can effectively play all three zones and both special teams,” said Miller. “His potent shot from the point could earn him early power play minutes from the start as a freshman.” NHL Central Scouting named Walsh to their Futures List for the 2014 NHL Draft. He will return to St. Michael’s this season.
He should have to buy 100 copies of the magazine for making me change this now. Argh. I don't even have a photo for that page.
ARRRRRGH

I think half of that column of mine is going to be out-of-date by the time the magazine hits mailboxes (Christian Meike had his USHL rights traded from Cedar Rapids to Sioux City if you missed that one, too).

The news of Walsh going to Mississauga has been known for about a week now. It was only made official today.
Unfortunately, this is the way it goes in hockey recruiting. Tough loss for Michigan to lose their top rated defensive recruit so late in the recruiting cycle. U-M returns seven defensemen next year (provided none leave early), but there's definitely a lack of star power and a few of them I would be worried about if we have to play them every game.
There's only one blue liner with the NTDP who is not committed (and he's suppose to be pretty good), though I don't know if there's any mutual interest. Otherwise, the coaches will probably have to mine the junior leagues for an overager or diamond in the rough.
BTW, you listed 2015 recruit Nick Boka as a forward, but he's a defenseman.

Maybe there's a young man over in Moscow who's fluent in English and would like to spend a year or two in Ann Arbor. Promise Putin a ring if the Wolverines win the NCAA tournament.

You win some, you lose some to so, so appropriately-named Canadian junior hockey teams.

Terms of peace will be
- They abolish the CHL and give us all their hockey players
In exchange, we will stop pretending they are the 51st state and will reduce the amount of time we make fun of them by 30% by 2020
