Official Indy Hotel and Parking Thread

Submitted by Doctor Wolverine on November 27th, 2022 at 10:28 PM

I have seen a few threads about tickets, but not much regarding hotels and parking in Indy for the B1G Championship. I am planning to attend with family for the first time this year, and I am hoping to get some advice from those who have done this in the past. It looks like most of the downtown hotels are full. Do those tend to open back up as OSU fans and others cancel throughout the week? I booked something outside of Indy for Saturday night, but I am curious if it makes sense to keep checking back…or would those reservations have been needed months ago? As far as parking, what is the situation? I know it won’t be anything like Ann Arbor, but are there a good number of lots around the stadium? Is there an alumni tailgate / parking area? Any good restaurants to grab some food and drinks before the game? Thanks in advance! I am excited to experience my first B1G Championship. Go Blue!!!

Last year we parked in a garage across the street from the slippery noodle.   The outdoor fan fest was right there.  Was surprisingly cheap, like $20.  However it took at least an hour to get out.   I really enjoyed barhopping vs tradition tailgating.

Don't forget to check AirBnB and VRBO. We landed a small, 2-bedroom house just under one mile from the stadium for $320 out the door last night. Great reviews and looks nice. Walking distance so we don't have to worry about parking or enjoying a few beers and driving. I just checked AirBnB and there's a condo about the same distance going for $380. 3 bedrooms, 8 guests.

Hotels will likely remain fairly difficult depending on what you’re willing to spend. Plenty of parking/tailgate options around the stadium. We were a couple blocks from it last year (McCarty lot) and tailgated all day. Food/drinks will be easier the further away from the stadium you get. We tried to pop into a couple bars within walking distance of the stadium mid-tailgate and lines were out the door (a block long at the Slippery Noodle).

I went last year and stayed outside of downtown. The hotels didn’t open back up throughout the week and we were lucky to get one booked. As far as parking goes I’m not sure because we ubered downtown. Was easy to get one down there but after the game was a nightmare. Easily the most expensive Uber I’ve ever had. There are a few tailgates around the stadium. We went to the B1G tailgate on Georgia street. They had food and beer and was an easy walk to Lucas oil. Also had the SEC title game playing on a big screen.  Hope you have a great time and Go blue!

We missed out last year, so made sure we are in this time! Easily booked a Holiday Inn Express in Kokomo - an hour in the right direction for West Michiganders.

You MIGHT be able to find a hotel room in Indy, b/c Purdue is only a 70 mile one way drive. I would think most of their fans would not spend the extra hotel $$$ if they can be back in 60 - 75 minutes. Parking many be an issue, unless your hotel offers it.

I guess it all depends on how many of their long distance (150+ miles) fans attend. Being that there is a strong possibility of them losing, they may not get many long distance fans either.

I was wondering if the alumni association is coordinating a shuttle service to any of the suburbs/hotels.

Haven't heard anything organized as of yet.

The uber back to the hotel after the game is what has me worried..

I booked the Hampton yesterday around 2pm.  There seemed to be quite a few rooms available at the various downtown hotels.  It wasn't cheap but nice to not have to worry about driving or parking.

Give it a few days. I'm sure OSU fans are holding onto their hotel reservation till the last second, like last year. It should open up. Down town Indy is set up perfectly for the game day experience, Georgia street will be rocking. O'Reilly's Irish Pub & Restaurant is the official Michigan backer bar in town. Great environment last year. let me till you and anyone  that wasnt in Indy last year. If you plan on sitting down and eating anywhere within walking distance of the stadium, you better plan accordingly.. We went down around 1pm and every place was 3+ hour waits. once people found an table they didn't move for hours. We went to Giordano's,  a bit of a walk , but the best pizza in town. go blue

Any advice on best lot/area for tailgating around the stadium? It’s going to be 51 degrees and dry so we will definitely be tailgating before the game rather than hitting a bar or restaurant!
