Not good bob..
Had not seen it posted on the board yet.
At the end of the show today sam webb, and the michigan insider, announced that they have been furloughed for the next week to return on june 1. And will have 2 more furlough weeks TBD. Hope that this doesnt turn into something long term.
Its a shame to lose bakich, who was just on and is amazing; craig ross, and JUB. Even for a week.
Obviously i hope that everyone is doing well, and staying safe.
Go blue!
PANIC
Please dont do that mean joe. Nobody needs to deal with a koala bite in times like these..
Nobody needs koalas losing their shit right now, nobody.
Protect yourself. Buy a gun. Koalas can die from lead poisoning just like the rest of us.
To be honest, quokkas are where it is at in pandemic times. Koalas are so 2007. Sorry.
Im obviously not as far into the buffalo trace as you are..
And im a man who has worn nothing but a generously placed sock off the stuff.
Good times!
Maybe 97.1 could hire Sam. I hear they could use a replacement from 2:00-6:00 PM on weekdays.
They announced this weeks ago. This was planned. That show that comes on after his is on furlough right now. They said this was going to happen multiple times.
And in response to the OP, I can stand a week without JUB. The constant laughter about nothing is annoying as hell. Then I have listen to Sam do the fake laugh also.
agree on the jub laugh. drives me loopy.
i have noticed sam sometimes tone out and just say, mmmphmmm to guests. kind of cracks me up.
It must have been very difficult for you to deal with such trauma.
We found JUB's burner account.
JUB: The official cheerleader of Michigan sports.
What a time to run a sports talk radio station. If you have deep pockets, this could be the time to snag some new talent.
I think you must mean 97.1's food show on from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM - The Spew.
How would Sam Webb getting furloughed mean we lose Bakich?
Sorry for the confusion. To lose him as an interview. Kinda like i don't mean craig ross or john bacon is getting fired or has died. Its just syndicated shows to replace the show.
As a baseball coach i find bakich to be quite different from the herd.
Baking isn't on very often, so it's not a big deal bud.
Don't ya just love auto correct?
I've been saying it for months, Sam's show is getting old. Too many commercials (recruiting Roundup goes > 2 minutes before recruit info begins), too much talking about kids, too many interviews with his non-professional sponsors, too much recent Covid info from good but not truly national expert-level medical professionals, and most "inside info" comes through Lorenz or others first. But I do specifically try to listen to Ross (great recent stuff), the coaches, sometimes Bacon, etc. Will the new podcast continue? Maybe preferable than the show.
I haven't listened as much lately, but I have not picked this up. Recruiting is cyclic.
I agree on Craig though. That man could take Ira's place, and I'd listen to every chopped up bit of that radio show (speaking to the 12 podcasts for each show).
Sam said Friday that new podcast material will be updated a lot on his 24/7 web site. Lots of interviews and the like.
New recruiting podcast is also going to only be every other Wednesday.
What is he supposed to do? I think he’s done a great job keeping the show going for this long,
As far as commercials go, he’s gotta get paid. That’s was the skip forward button is for
Anybody know when Jaime Miettinen and Sebastian Gaeta's show is coming back?
Pete Campbell frowns on your shenanigans.
The line is "not great, Bob!"
"Hell's Bells, Trudy!"
"Christ On A Cracker!"
“Direct marketing? I thought of that. Turns out it already existed, but I arrived at it independently”
I came here to be that guy, but you beat me to it.
wrong thread
Not my fault.
Sincerely,
Bob
Damn and terrestrial radio was doing so well up until now.... I like Sam and his show but if this is the beginning of the end for WTKA, Sam will land on his feet without a doubt
Sam's doing well by working for 24/7 sports. He still has viable income. I understand his wife also works (U of M Medicine).
Your title sucks. I thought you were going to say something about Donovan Edwards going to Georgia.
Don't worry, we'll get there.
Sucks for them to be periodically out of work but let's not act like the next few months aren't usually the most boring for sports anyways. It'll give Sam time to ride his Kubota tractor
No big deal as this will end up being a 4 day week. WTKA's morning show, The Michigan Insider, has lost several sponsors but seemed to be holding it's own.
Know that Micheal Spath's Inside the Huddle show may or may not come back. I was told Jamie Morris' M-Zone was to come back by June 1st so I wonder if anything's changed there. Am betting he won't come back until early June, if ever.
WTKA stands to lose 2 of it's 3 local shows due to the impact of this virus. One can argue or debate about the quality of the shows.
I wish people would quit saying that this or that happened or is happening “because of the virus.” No, most of this crap is happening because of how we chose to deal with the virus.
You misquoted me as I said due to the impact of this virus. No mention of "because of this virus". How else can you say that the effects of this virus forced all non essential businesses to have been shut down? WTKA relies heavily on locally run businesses as their advertising model. Many of which dropped their ads. So, this is mostly a bottom line decision. The economics are much worse than what we saw in 2008-09.
Had we chose to deal with this virus in a more intelligent way, ie; not a protracted shut down, most if not all of our local business would have been able to open up much sooner, say by early May and not until June 12th, per Whitmer.
Agreed except I don't include myself in "we". I had no choice thanks to a tyrannical government out of control.
It's really incredible to me that these companies don't have a reserve. That's such a basic concept.
EDIT: Side note: What excuse is an internet company giving their employees? I guarantee their income hasn't fallen that much. People are canceling but, I mean, come on. It seems they're using this as a financial tool.
True. We went into cash preservation mode at the beginning of March just in case. Media companies are notoriously poorly run though so I guess it's not that surprising.
