NJIT Loses in CIT Final Four

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

The Team Nobody Ever Heard of Until December is still alive!

NJIT marched into the CIT Final Four with a win over Canisius on Saturday. The Highlanders have won three straight in the CIT, and they play at Northern Arizona tonight. The winner meets the winner of Evansville v. UT-Martin in the CIT final on Thursday.

I have to admit that not only had I never heard of NJIT before December; I had never heard of the CIT.

you dug deep for that one.

But seriously, are we going to keep caring about NJIT?  Is that going to be a thing?  I would really prefer it not be but if it is going to be at least I can make a mental note.

I am correct in saying that this is the tournament that Michigan said they would not attend if invited? They are a step below the NIT I believe.

It's great that NJIT isn't the WORST in CBB after our loss to them, but the loss is still a really ugly blemish on our season.

to which Beilein was alluding.

The CBI

The CIT

The CIT is a tournament for teams outside of the "high mid-majors" that have been successful at their own level.  Power 5 conferences are excluded from the tournament,

The CIT Final Four consists of

TUESDAY MARCH 31

UT-Martin (21-12) @ Evansville (22-12) 7:00
NJIT (21-11) @ Northern Arizona (22-14) 9:00

This tournament exists for teams like NJIT.

Based on the numbers, Wisconsin losing to Rutgers was worse.

Should we have won, YES, but losses of this sort happen every year.

I don't understand the obsession.

It's nothing like football, where the superior team should be able to shove the grossly inferior team up and down the field.  Basketball is a game where one team can go hot and the other cold.  "Major" upsets happen all the time.

This season sucked: so what?  The occasional "down year" is the price for running a clean program.  IMO, it's worth paying.  Sometimes, you just have to congratulate the other guy and move on.

NJIT is having a great year by their standards.  They have something to be excited about.  I'm happy for them.

In the last ten years, we have seen: Bo pass away, a loss to Appalachian State, a loss to Toledo, a loss to Eastern Michigan, a loss to The New Jersey Institute of Technology, more losses than wins to Ohio State and Michigan State, a near loss to Akron, and six coaching changes............ Our misfortunes have to be ready to turn around, right?

seen an undefeated, #2 ranked team in the nation, a bowl win against the defending national champion Florida, a Sugar Bowl victory, two basketball conference championsips, a basketball national player of the year, and a BIG player of the year.

Just saying - it hasn't been all bad, has it?

But the undefeated, #2 ranked team in the nation still lost to Ohio State and then got smacked in the mouth in Pasadena. The fact that the football team hasn't won a Rose Bowl since January 1st, 1998 makes me want to cry.

that stings the most to me was 2003.  I know that Texas was the closer game but that 2003 Michigan team was a damn good team and actually played SC tougher than the final score would indicate.  If Braylon catches the deep ball on the first drive that game may have gone a lot differently.

I'm twenty-four (24) and Michigan hasn't won a Rose Bowl since I was seven (7) years old. The Texas game in 2005 was painful. I guess you could technically count January 2000 as somewhat of a big win - we won the Orange Bowl because that's when the Big10 vs Pac10 Rose Bowl matchup was not protected due to the BCS.

I was in attendance for the 2012 Sugar Bowl and it's just hard to accept that as a big win because of how poorly we played, how poorly Virginia Tech played, and the fact that most people in America thought both only got into a BCS bowl to sell tickets.

Personally, I count Lloyd's last game as our last major win.  Although, watching the offensive playbook finally get opened up on the last game he would ever coach was pretty tough.  Where the hell was that playbook for the previous 5 years?

I disagree a bit about the Sugar Bowl.  Yes, the game wasn't great, and neither team really deserved to be in it.  But winning a major Bowl game for the first time since 2008 was like getting a drink of water after walking through the desert.
