Nice Article On Greg Robinson
Somebody posted this over on the scout boards:

FWIW he calls himself a "great recruiter" in it and says that on defense he wants to be "attacking it as opposed to being attacked".
Nice fluff article.

I-as most people have- felt like this hiring was a bad decision at first, but after I read a post from ThoseWhoStay (it's a blog) and doing a bit more research I have come to accept this decision. He has performed terribly as a Head Coach, but as a D coor. he has performed (IMO) very well. Obviously nobody has a clue of how this will turn out but I am excited.

"Then, you have to generate the reckless kind of game where you are trying to create chaos. You get that by studying the offense and really learning what you are dealing with, and attacking it as opposed to being attacked. I'm not a big believer in sit back and read and react."
I've heard this stuff before from previous DCs, but it was always an intermittent thing. If this actually defines what our defense will be on a consistent, every-game, all-game basis, good things will happen.

THE 4-3 IS A GIMMICK DEFENSE THAT WON'T STOP SMASH-MOUTH OFFENSES!

I'd love one day for a DC to come out and just say something like "Yeah, what we're trying to do is sit back and react to the offense. Bend but don't break. We're really not going to put a lot of pressure on the QB."

"Yeah, what we're trying to do is sit back and react to the offense. Bend but don't break. We're really not going to put a lot of pressure on the QB." - Wayne Fontes (about) 1994

They basically did that right after they traded their first round pick to the Saints in 1993 for pass rush specialist Pat Swilling and decided that it would make sense to have him drop back in coverage rather than rush the QB. Of course, that first round pick that they traded away to New Orleans became one Willie Roaf, who, predictably, became one of the best left tackles of his era.

Ahahaha.
And to think that Lions fans are actually nostalgic for the days of ol' Wayne Fontes at this point.
