Strange that Dhani Jones makes the commercial, but not Charles. At the same time, it was very cool to see Dhani Jones, looking like he's seen some shit.

I think that's Ed Reed you're talking about in the silver jacket.
February 4th, 2019 at 5:21 PM ^
Wait, the gold jacket?
It was silver, not gold?
It was Ed Reed, not Dhani Jones?
...
How drunk was I last night?
February 4th, 2019 at 5:25 PM ^
Think you're right about the color, and I about the player.
And apparently drunk enough to make last night's game watchable, which is good!
February 4th, 2019 at 5:30 PM ^
LOL I was drinking to soften the blow of losing that game 6-3...then it turned into happy drinking and drunk, celebratory Popeyes.
Dhani would be in my NFL 100 commercial.

To each their own.. better than SEC/PAC12 first to 100 wins
Maybe I'm crazy, but I think there's a middle ground between this option and last night's game.

I think more than any other game this season the officials let the players play. There were a bunch of plays where ticky-tack PI that we've been accustomed to would have been called at any other time this season.
I can also recall several hits on the QBs in this game that, especially early in the year, would have been deemed unnecessary roughness (notably the Donald hit on Brady early in the game where he threw him down, and several others where players didn't completely avoid landing with their body weight on the QB).

A lot of people complain about these types of calls during the year that lead to a bunch of offense, but then complain about how 'awful' the game is when it is a defensive battle.

I was like Dhani Jones? Why the hell would he be in this? Awesome guy, Go Blue...but uhh, these are some of the biggest names in the sport.
Anyway, IN before the back and forth on race begins!
Poster 1: So all black people look alike?!
Poster 2: No, why do you folks always have to take to race?
Poster 1: Because no one ever confuses Tom Brady and Peyton Manning...and what do you mean "you folks?"
Poster 3: But they actually DO look alike (posts side-by-side).
Poster 1: No they don't...do you have eyes?
Poster 3: Yes, and there's a resemblance - it doesn't always have to go to race.
Poster 1: In America, yes it does...and until we admit that, we're doomed.
Poster 6: When Trump took office we were doomed.
Poster 7: POLITICS!!!!
Poster 8: I agree...they don't look alike, you all should take this test on implicit bias.
Poster 1: #ThisIsAmerica
Poster 4: Some people actually do look alike.
Poster 9: Hey guys, check out my maize and blue hangers...oh and Kim Barnes Arico is a SAINT!

Awesome commercial!
The NFL took something out of the NBA's playbook and decided to let the PLAYERS do the marketing for them.
OBJ, Suh, there were quite a few guys who the league likely hates showcasing...but their popularity is GOOD for the league. Lynch.
It seems like everyone is taking a page from the NBA...remember MLB had a commercial during the playoffs featuring the players and it was basically about "old guys STFU with your unwritten rules of baseball, this is a new era, have fun, showcase yourselves and your personality."
Smart move by both leagues. One big reason the NBA is so popular right now is because it's marketed its players EXTREMELY well. Sure people hate the league (65% of this blog), but the NBA DOMINATED coverage all week last week. Super Bowl week and it was James Harden, Anthony Davis, LeBron and the NYC/Dallas trade.
I'll be interested to see if we get more of this from the NFL. They have some polarizing personalities...put them on display and let those guys be the face of the league...not "THE SHIELD." MLB same thing, I don't think it's going to help...but let the personalities come out.
I can't speak to hockey, but #LGRW #GoWings.

I liked the Barry / Emmitt part. Felt like it was acknowledging that Barry was just on a different level even if the final stats don’t show it.

My favorite SB commercial in years. Balance between the past and the present. A great touch of humor. Well-choreographed action (I cheered Barry!). And it was just plain fun.

There are some outtakes from the NFL 100 Super Bowl ad available on YouTube that are equally good. “Behind the Scenes” and “Compilation”
Director Peter Berg deserves a lot of credit for putting the ad together on fairly short notice. LINK

I think that was also the first interception Joe Montana has thrown during a Super Bowl, too.
February 5th, 2019 at 7:15 AM ^
Well, he only played in 4 of them . . .
February 4th, 2019 at 8:05 PM ^
Anyone else found it interesting Brady and Goodell were in the same commercial? I'm assuming not everyone was together for the filming, but it took me a full day to realize the irony of those two appearing together in anything lighthearted.
February 4th, 2019 at 9:23 PM ^
I laughed when Montana refused to throw it to Micheal Irving!
February 5th, 2019 at 7:21 AM ^
I think you spell his name, Michael Irvin.

I still hate Peyton Manning, but I did chuckle at the, "Yeah, that hurt".
