New John U. Bacon Book

Submitted by UMVAFAN on November 15th, 2020 at 9:30 PM

I heard a rumor that John U. Bacon is writing another book about Michigan football. Any guesses on title? I think these would be very fitting:

”Wide Left: The psychology of Jim Harbaugh, the Michigan fan base, and the undoing of a once storied program”

or

”Unrivaled: How Ohio State crippled its greatest rival and crushed the soul of its favorite son”

Any other ideas?

John U went to Michigan, wrote multiple best sellers about Michigan football and other historical events, teaches at Michigan and if you've spent 5 seconds with him in person you'd know he loves his alma matter deeply.  And yet you mock him.

Can you say the same OP?

Yes to all of those except being a best selling author and teaching at Michigan. He’s a good dude. This wasn’t mocking him. This was trying to make light of the current situation with the football program and to see what funny titles other people on the board could come up with. I’m sincerely sorry if I offended in some way. Definitely not my intention.

I literally asked my dad about this last night. I think I remember Bacon saying that he planned on 4th and Long being his last book, but he kept getting reasons to write the next two. This season is as good a reason as any to write a book. I'd be looking forward to it for sure.

edit: couldn't tell if the post was sarcastic or not

My guess is Bacon never intends to keep writing more books about Michigan football, but then he suddenly realizes what's going on within the program (whether good or bad, but it's been mostly bad) is worth writing another book about.  And that's what's going on this season.

I've read all his books.  They're good.  Sometimes it is a little cringe-worthy because I don't think he really knows much about the X's and O's of football, but that's okay and not why I read his stuff.   It is a little cringe-worthy too how Three and Out painted a picture of Rich Rod being such a good character guy, when that's turned out not to be the case, but I also understand to get close access to these things he has to hold some things back.

But overall, when his next book eventually comes out about how terrible our program is right now....I will painfully buy it and read it.
