I'm gonna have to defer to Matt here, but I've never really seen him as a high major player. Not to mention we've brought in a lot of guys who can play the lead guard spot recently so I'm not sure why we would pursue one in the 2023 class which is likely to only be a few spots

Interesting to say the least.

Howard really seems to value experience over athleticism at the PG position. He seems to willing to go after athletic one-and-done types on the wings and at center, but at PG he seems to prefer having experience. Im guessing that's why he likes senior transfer PGs and recruiting guys who are locks to stay in the program for several years and develop.

With the Bullets: Scott Skiles as a rookie, Robert Pack, Rod Strickland for 5-6 years,
Dallas: Steve Nash
Denver: Nick VanExel (with a little Tim Hardaway and Avery Johnson)
Orlando: Ty Lue (with Strickland cameo)
Hourston: Lue/Strickland, Rafer Alston a couple years
Charlotte: Raymond Felton
Portland: Andre Miller
Miami: Mike Bibby/Mario Chalmers/Carlos Arroyo in year one, Chalmers the last two years. Tho, Lebron was functionally more of the playmaker PG on offense than Chalmers

Wade was a two-guard who really only played about 7-10% of his minutes at the point while he and Juwan overlapped.

But, if you look at Skiles, Strickland, Nash, Lue, Miller and Avery Johnson (played together at three stops) if you are generalizing, they are more in the mold of "PG runs the offense and is helping others get their shots first" type of lead guards.

OH recruit who referred Michigan as “Michigan University.” Clearly he’s trolling us. Hard pass.

He's a kid to watch. At this time he does not have the quickness to penetrate offensively nor the ability to stop penetration defensively. Juwan likes to be able to push the pace of play-Cupp does not show this. He's young, smart and still growing...but I don't see him as a Michigan PG-maybe a SG.

To detail Cupps's profile a bit more, he was on Bronny James's travel team when they were little and rose to prominence at that time, in particular when he challenged LeBron to a shooting contest during shootarounds:

Cupps will have huge NIL potential, as he has 360k Instagram followers (2.5x Nunez and 9.5x Dickinson).

On the court, he has a rep as a "Not Just A Shooter." I think a combo guard is the right fit for the 2023 class, but I too would prefer someone more in the Elmarko Jackson mold.

seems like a kid that can play...I mean MattEM will have a better idea.

Michigan is fairly deliberate with its offers it seems like (Traore still doesn't have an offer...yet), so this was a move that they feel strongly in...Chances are he picks OSU, as he is an Ohio kid and plays on LeBron's travel team as noted...

So far, there's no reason to doubt Coach Howard et al's ability to scout and identify players (though MattEM has beat them to the punch on a few kids :)
