New Football Maize Practice Jerseys

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Saw this run across my twitter feed.

Okay, either that's bad lighting or I'm somewhat color blind. Looks like a mustardy yellow or still orange.

#Michigan quarterbacks no longer wearing orange jerseys in practice. They are now wearing Maize (not yellow) jerseys.

Here are those Maize quarterback practice jerseys that I mentioned last week ...

EDIT: Phew. I'm not color blind. Just a bad photo. Here is a MUCH better look. And they have the B1G patch on them.

I'm not sure if either of those pictures show the yellow of the stars as they ride through the night; the yellow of the field where ripens the grain; or the yellow of the moon on the harvest wain.

A couple of years ago there was a similar post about denards practice pants. I think they were white. They ended up being a prototype for a new design. I'm thinking the first jersey is a prototype that Devins trying on.

Old news is old.

My googling skills are failing me, but Michigan had some maize jerseys for the QBs about 3 years about.  There's a pic floating somewhere of Denard wearing one.

They're stupid.

When you get on campus and spend four years at Michigan, you understand the power of tradition and Michigan wearing simple blue jerseys, maize winged helmets and coming out of the tunnel and touching that banner is one of the greatest traditions ever.  Fuck anyone that wants to change that in even the most indirect ways.

EDIT:

Though I wouldn't mind all-whites for an away game once.

I guess it depends what you really mean by returning to our old color.

For me personally I believe that this looks better than what we have now. Unfortunately the only way we're going back is if we sign with Nike again.

If you are referring to Nike supposedly trademarking one or more of our colors, it is a myth.  If you are trying to say Nike had better general color sense, that is not a matter of contractual rights/duties.

And without a same-frame comparison, practically any photographic reproduction is not true color.

I don't actually disagree with you; in the photo, Manny Harris looks fine.  In person, some of this year's basketball uniforms are a tad bright.  But they are very fine differences.  I would have seen that uniform Manny was wearing, in person.  It looked fine.  Not all that different (perhaps a half a shade more "pastel") from this year's.

I hope these stay on the practice field. I do not want Michigan to become like Oregon and have a zillion different uniforms. In general, i like the traditional, long standing uni designs. The look the Green Bay Packers have had since Lombardi took over in 1959, the Detroit Tigers home unis, both the red and white Red Wings unis, and even though i hate the team, the NY Yankee pinstripes. I did like the alternates they wore against Notre Dame and MSU a few years ago, but generally i prefer them with their usual look.
