New Commit - TX ATH Tony Drake

Submitted by Mlaw2010 on
I don't have an account to rivals, but it's on the front page of thewolverine.com. Here's the link: http://michigan.rivals.com/barrier_noentry.asp?sid=883&script=content.a… Don't know much about him - but he's a small kid: Athlete Dallas (TX) Skyline Ht: 5-foot-9 Wt: 170 lbs Class: 2010 (High School) Sorry if this was already posted - I couldn't find it and I didn't want to search through everything.

I can tell you that he must have done something somewhere, because all he does is rip off huge gains and score long TDs in the videos. Hard to tell how fast he is, but shows good acceleration. Prototypical slot guy in our offense. In fact, his high school runs our offense. Keeping in mind he still hasn't played his senior year I like the offer and the commitment based on what I've seen.

http://www.vype.com/general/4856 13. Tony Drake, Skyline The Raiders are in a situation where they are producing multiple Division I recruits each season, and Drake will be another. He only rushed for 300 yards last season, but remember again like White, he had limited opportunities because Skyline has so many talented skill players. Drake is another back with 4.4 speed.

I was just currious if anyone is worried about how the recruiting is going for football next year? Got a couple of guys that are way off the radar committed for next year...and I mean WAY off. Is Michigan still a powerhouse that should be pulling in only 4 and 5 star guys? Again, just curious what everyone thinks..

I just searched through the pages here. "He's the #74 prospect in the country to Rivals but only a three star (and the #132 player in the southeast) to Scout" So, rivals was on him early, but Scout couldn't like him any less. I guess I'm just saying that it's too early to judge the kid (not that anyone was) before the services even evaluate him. Obviously, RR and co. saw something in him that they liked enough to offer. Also, we should be excited because he didn't blink at the chance to be blue. That's the kind of kid you want playing at UM.

mixture of both. But, I do have concerns about his size. I'm 5'10" and 160 lbs, and I was bigger than him by a couple inches and a couple of pounds. And, he does not really have a frame to add a lot of "good weight." It will certainly be interesting to see how his career develops here.

Since we have a handful of young guys in the slot now, Odoms, Robinson, Gallon (pending qualification), Faegin, and there is talk of Teric playing in the slot as well, and since RB depth is decent this year but 3 of them are seniors and one is currently injured (Shaw) I would say all signs point to him spending most of his time at RB. That said, that chance of him lining up in the slot some, motioning to the slot, or catching passes out of the backfield are high high high.

looked good in the video. I have two concerns. In the first clip, he allowed himself to be tackled by the kicker at the 50. If he breaks that, he goes for a TD. His size may have been an issue there. Secondly, on both the kickoff and the punt return clips, he catches the ball on the fly without dribbling it or allowing the ball to touch the ground. That must be allowed in Texas high school football. I guess, with proper coaching, he can learn to put the ball on the ground during returns. Barwis must have an exercise for this.

This could be a case where a guy commits as a way to draw attention from other schools, and get more offers. Maybe not, but it is something to keep an eye out for. And, for you star-watchers, this is probably our 5th 3-star commit this year, with 3 4-stars. Based on who we are receiving attention from, we will probably have a top 15 class, but not the spectacular one a lot of people envisioned. Jmo.
