NCAA trying to delay NIL
New York Times article about NCAA president trying to delay NIL legislation.
"One of the N.C.A.A.’s most powerful panels had been scheduled to consider new standards on Monday afternoon. But in a letter to the Justice Department on Saturday, the N.C.A.A.’s president, Mark Emmert, said he had “strongly recommended” that the association’s governing bodies wait, effectively stepping back from pledges to lawmakers and others that college sports leaders would act this winter on the issue known as name, image and likeness."

This is also known as delaying the inevitable

In the meantime, the corrupt organization continues to collect money for nothing. Emmett continues to earn his dirty paycheck as their mouthpiece and pincushion.

I hope the respective lawmakers tell Mark Emmett to go pound some sand

I think it is the Michigan is going to benefit most; screw them; delay as much as possible plan.

Michigan has the largest alumni base but a city like LA would have endless endorsement opportunities. I don't know that playing in Ann Arbor is going to have the impact that a lot of fans think it will have.

Lol. Like a random NYer will wear a RU jersey, even if they are great and have a star player.

I 1000% believe that the same 3 elite teams will still continue to be the most elite once this is put in place. It only gives players more benefits to an elite school that already has benefits. I dont see michigan gaining much of an advantage. My personal opinion though

Pay college players and college football become the NFL with a salary cap. If you want to get paid to play college football football then get into college on your own academic merit and eliminate athletic scholarships.

lol, that would eliminate nearly every elite players from playing college football. Also, it's low key racists to say the latter statement.

What's the difference between Ford offering a player money to endorse a product, and Michigan offering a player a scholarship to play at Michigan?
January 9th, 2021 at 8:07 PM ^
Not following this really, but why in particular does everyone seem to think Michigan will benefit more from this than other teams so much?
January 9th, 2021 at 8:13 PM ^
Exactly. If anything it benefits teams like Alabama even more

I look at it this way - Michigan is probably the gold standard for following the existing rules in place. True there are places like L.A. that will have their advantages but that is only one city and Michigan’s alumni base will come through in my opinion.
This thought process goes out the window if Rutgers is able to dominate the largest media market in the world (New York) however. /s

Michigan could potentially benefit from this because of a premium brand, it's not going to make as big as much difference until direct compensation to the players becomes a reality. This is where the playfield gets leveled.

I’m affiliated with one of the top high school programs in Texas, the kids don’t give a shit about the Michigan brand.
January 9th, 2021 at 9:02 PM ^
The kids aren’t the ones paying for the brand, they’re the ones getting paid because of the brand. I imagine they will start caring.

I can say with a 100% confidence high school football players from the school I support don’t give two shits about Michigan. Get over it.

Can you make one more, maybe two posts saying it?!

To the surprise of no one.

I mean, of course they are....
Anything they can do to maintain the farce one moment longer is something they will immediately entertain.

I think Howard would do a good job of figuring out how to brand his players for NIL and the basketball team could benefit from it. The Fab 5 concept was really ahead of its time.
The Harbaugh of old would have figured it out too, but I'm not sure he has that in him anymore. We'll see.

What a joke the ncaa is.
January 9th, 2021 at 8:54 PM ^
This feels like the least effective, most face-palming decision the NCAA could have made, so I'm not remotely surprised.
January 9th, 2021 at 9:05 PM ^
As reviled as he is, I'm still not sure Emmert catches enough shit for how much he sucks.

They can’t claim these young men/women are amateurs anymore. They played through a pandemic for the money ...please. These young adults are young professionals.
