"NCAA should have canceled Men's BB Season"
I was surfing the radio on the way home, and heard the lead resident DB on 97.1 say that the
"NCAA should have canceled Men's BB Season"
His reason was b/c:
Duke, Kentucky, Villanova, Louisville, and Moo U were all having bad seasons, and that Covid is disrupting all of it combined. (Well maybe those teams suck.)
He cried that they would play the NCAA Tournament at community college gyms and various other places. (As if anyone would be allowed to attend anyway.)
Never mentioned the fact that Michigan is 9 - 0
I completely understand why I only surf through that station, and now confirm that I will not listen to it on the way home anymore, let alone any of the other hours.
What a complete DB.

This is exactly what you should expect from him - don’t let it bother you. Laugh at him - it is what his behavior and words deserve.
January 5th, 2021 at 7:33 PM ^
But it’s not what he said. OP is very far off base
January 5th, 2021 at 10:58 PM ^
Neg away but op is completely misquoting.
January 6th, 2021 at 9:38 AM ^
You know that you can actually post what you believe was said rather than just saying, "Boo, OP misquoting!" (paraphrased)
January 5th, 2021 at 8:01 PM ^
It is interesting that everyone wanted the football season canceled when the season went to pot and used COVID as the reason. Now that Men's BB is undefeated and cases are actually much higher, everyone who wants to cancel for the same reasons, is an a hole.
It is odd.
January 5th, 2021 at 8:58 PM ^
You should point out the hypocrisy in that... But the hypocrisy door swings both ways. The complaints flood in from those the situation does not favor, and the criticisms rain down from those still standing on dry land. :)
January 5th, 2021 at 6:36 PM ^
DB sounds like a cunt.
January 5th, 2021 at 6:38 PM ^
Dave Brandon?
January 5th, 2021 at 6:39 PM ^
"the lead resident DB on 97.1"
I'm done hating on Brandon. Moved on from that shit.
January 5th, 2021 at 6:42 PM ^
Dave Brandon, DB. BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
Unfortunately the rules here STATE that we are not allowed to mention the name of that DB, so I am following the rules.
January 5th, 2021 at 7:50 PM ^
Coincidence? DB also the first two letters of words that cannot be used here. Or is it one word ?
January 5th, 2021 at 6:40 PM ^
Fuckin Kevin, be nice to fuckin Barbara. You were the runt of the litter then ya got on the roids. You're a deadset cunt, aren't ya?
January 5th, 2021 at 6:46 PM ^
I don't think they can post 'cunt' over on 11 fake warriors. That alone makes this place better.
January 5th, 2021 at 6:54 PM ^
obligatory.
January 5th, 2021 at 7:41 PM ^
Profit
January 5th, 2021 at 7:52 PM ^
Oh, good, then douche bag must be ok here.
January 5th, 2021 at 6:39 PM ^
So the negative sports radio personality was negative about something ?
I am shocked .
January 5th, 2021 at 6:55 PM ^
Didn’t Coach K say the same thing when his team was 0-5?
January 5th, 2021 at 6:40 PM ^
I swear I read the title and my first thought was," Did Izzo say that?"
January 5th, 2021 at 6:43 PM ^
My thought as well.
January 5th, 2021 at 6:47 PM ^
Isn’t this the same comment & excuse people were using for Michigan football?
Should’ve just canceled the season. It doesn’t really count because of COVID. We only sucked because it was a weird year. Etc....
January 5th, 2021 at 6:53 PM ^
Fans? Perhaps some said that. Coaches or players? No freaking way! But guess what? In basketball, coaches K, Izzo and Calipari have all whined about the season being played. You want to know the common denominator with all of those names? Their teams suck ass right now. As far as Louisville, I permanently hate them, they have a vacated national championship that belongs to us that was handed to them because that one dude broke his leg and the NCAA was sucking Pitino off better than that restaurant whore he was banging.
January 5th, 2021 at 10:47 PM ^
Izzy whined when last years March Madness was cancelled. And understandably he has a team that was a threat to win it. This year not so much.
January 5th, 2021 at 6:54 PM ^
Im pretty sure saying i wish they cancelled it and they should have cancelled it mean two different things.
But heck what do I know.
January 5th, 2021 at 7:02 PM ^
Uh, no. Have you even been to this board? We've been tearing UM football apart for months. Even the Harbaugh supporters agree that he's not getting it done.
If that excuse was being used more than a handful of times, I missed it.
January 5th, 2021 at 6:53 PM ^
Villanova is #3 so...
January 5th, 2021 at 7:06 PM ^
He threw in Villanova b/c 8 of their games were PPD by Covid.
January 5th, 2021 at 7:53 PM ^
Villanova is interesting b/c they did this: decided after their Dec 23 game to have a "holiday break, a lull that includes three days of visits from players’ families"
https://www.inquirer.com/college-sports/villanova/villanova-wildcats-college-basketball-marquette-family-visits-10-day-break-coach-jay-wright-20201222.html
They have not played a game since, due to a big COVID outbreak, cancelling 3 games and won't play another one until at least mid-January.
I completely understand thinking it is a good idea to have a mental health/family break, and they put some good effort into this (e.g., providing space on campus for families to visit; thinking about precautions) but these weren't supervised, had an eating component (a big spreader risk, unless you are quite careful, which is really hard for families who haven't seen each other) and only had 4 days of quarantine (need at least 7 due to lags in when tests can detect the virus in certain situations).
Basketball during a pandemic is a challenging situation, but even Coach K knows that if March Madness doesn't happen this year, the billion-plus dollars the NCAA will lose will cripple the sport. So we'll have a season and a tourney even if it's a 17-2 Villanova vs a 26-5 Gonzaga in the finals with numerous tourney games cancelled along the way.
January 5th, 2021 at 8:29 PM ^
Gonzaga isn't losing one WCC game, much less five.
January 5th, 2021 at 6:57 PM ^
Villanova and (inexplicably) Duke are ranked. L'ville is decent and UK has had average/bad seasons under Calipari before, so this is nothing new.
Plus, no Sparty slappies complained when they beat Duke in their library.
"A win against Duke is huge, regardless of the situation"
- Entire "Sparty No" Nation
January 5th, 2021 at 7:02 PM ^
That is not what he said actually. He said that they should take time off, make sure the players are safe, and get the tournament done in may. He also said if duke, Kentucky, MSU are all under .500 they should be left out of the tournament. Not sure what you were hearing but you’re pretty far off base.
and I hate Valentis takes when it comes to anything Michigan but he was spot on in calling the ncaa out on its hypocrisy in saying it’s not about money and it’s about player safety which is bullshit.
January 5th, 2021 at 8:01 PM ^
Thanks for this info.
I have no issue with this plan, but it should have been implemented from the start (not Valenti's fault, obviously). To adjust now would be difficult, particularly the switch in the tourney time -- TV money drives the bus and does CBS want a tourney in May?
I tend to think they'll just bumble through, like college football has done, and hope for the best.
January 5th, 2021 at 7:12 PM ^
For me, this feels like nothing compared to college football. College football was an absolute mess with postponements, decisions from conferences, etc.
College basketball, at least in my cheap straw poll has had very few cancellations or postpones. It pales in comparison to football.
January 5th, 2021 at 7:16 PM ^
That's not what he said, but selective hearing makes for better blog slop I guess.
Main point was for a short delay in the season , and pick up after another month or so, pushing the tournament til May
Carry on with the version you prefer.
Pretty soon you'll see more and games postponed.
January 5th, 2021 at 7:36 PM ^
Not arguing, just curious, what will delaying it a month do to help?
January 5th, 2021 at 7:50 PM ^
Not a dang thing unless they want to wait a month to see if college athletes and coaches can jump to the head of the line for vaccines.
January 5th, 2021 at 7:51 PM ^
Why not just play as many games now as can, then, and postpone the ones you can't. If they have to push the tourney back to May because of the amount of postponed games, then so be it.. you're in the same situation, but at least had the possibility of getting it in on time. If you push it back a month and start having postponement, then you're now looking at June for the tourney.
January 5th, 2021 at 8:10 PM ^
Pushing it back didn’t work for the Bigten in football, it won’t work for basketball either. It’s either play it or not.
January 5th, 2021 at 7:19 PM ^
That station sucks. Stopped listening years ago. Only listen to XM Radio.
January 5th, 2021 at 7:25 PM ^
Bad sports radio hot take: news at 11.
January 5th, 2021 at 7:31 PM ^
I mean, I don't necessarily think it's a good idea to run a basketball season after how bad the college football season did with COVID, but I come to that determination not because some perennial powers are having a rough go of it.
January 5th, 2021 at 7:37 PM ^
<Edit> Removed my comment, which was fine, but as other posters pointed out that Valenti actually didn't say what the OP asserted, no need to point out his trolling faults here.
January 5th, 2021 at 9:07 PM ^
His pay was greatly diminished during this pandemic and that’s why they added his Sparty bro cohost and he isn’t doing his additional shows. He also sold his old home (next door to my brother) during the middle of the pandemic to “downsize.”
January 5th, 2021 at 10:16 PM ^
Where was he living? I remember they lived in Royal Oak at some point.
January 5th, 2021 at 9:57 PM ^
We were literally saying the exact same thing about the football season. And for 9 out of 10 people, it wasn’t because of COVID concerns. It was because the team sucked. COVID was just a convenient excuse to hide behind.
January 6th, 2021 at 12:11 AM ^
Can someone tell me who the fuck you're talking about? Valenti? Is he still on the air?
January 6th, 2021 at 2:01 PM ^
I stopped listening to all talk-radio several years ago. I only listen to podcasts or Spotify. I can't imagine how Valenti can do that job four hours every day, especially since he likes to bag on bad teams and literally every Detroit team completely blows right now. You'd have to be drunk to take calls from a bunch of unemployed used car salesmen after another Lions loss. It's exhausting to listen to, much less have it as a job.
