NCAA Basketball Tournament - Halving The Final Four (Open Thread)

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

We'll just throw this out there now -

6:09 PM - the battle of the #2 seeds - Oklahoma vs. Villanova

8:49 PM - the #1 and the #10 - North Carolina vs. Syracuse

Both games are on TBS.

This is the first time a #10 has made it to the Final Four.

Later on, you can catch the Syracuse feed on TruTV and the North Carolna feed on TNT, I believe. Of some note, you will get to experience Donovan McNabb on the Syracuse feed if you want to relive some memories of a rather unfortunate game in 1998.

Good catch, I should have put that information up there as well.

I think I'm rooting on for Nova to keep rolling like they have been.  They're a fun team.

UNC-Syracuse jsut doesn't interest me but I think 'Cuse will fall to 0-3 against UNC...I don't see how they can win.

Reminds me of playing round-the-world at my old house growing up and one corner shot faced the sky with no background at all.  Whoever got those shots quickly almost always won.

Also, OU broadcast is probably the best.  No glare from the court and the color guy doesn't sound like a high school kid

Yeah but at least during that Villanova game we had hope. We beat a good Oregon team the night before and took a damn good Villanova team to the wire.

Something happened after that game. Injuries happened, sure, but this team lost all identity and swagger it otherwise had, and hasn't regained it since.

I am betting Nova gets smashed in the finals. I think literally every bounce both ways has gone their way tonight. They are shooting over 70% even with a good number of attempted 3s. My gut says that doesn't happen twice in a row, and they are much more likely to revert below their mean. Which sucks because I don't like either team on the other side.

I'd agree if Nova didn't play excellent defense, but they do. They've been playing great ball for a month and I wouldn't bet against them taking care of business against UNC, even if they revert to slightly below their scoring mean. They look like they could play another half even after this performance.

This is shaping up to be the biggest margin of victory in the tournament which makes every #16 seed feel a LOT better about themselves.

I imagine this might set a final four record for point disparity.  Pretty embarrasing.

So that 25-0 run has to be worse than the one that IU did against us right?

Damn.

Well, Oklahoma was the only final four pick in my bracket that made it. That's good enough for me. I'm not crying any tears for them. I just hope Nova can put in this kind of performance again on Monday...because the thought of North Carolina or Syracuse winning it all sickens me.

Is anyone else concerned about the NCAA taking away the students' weekend?

NCAA doing okay on ticket sales here...

This year's Villanova team has been unreal in the tournament. Look at the boxscores.

Kansas was the only team that was able to stay with this team. Villanova has shot 60%, made 10 3s, and won by roughly 20 points in 4 of its 5 NCAAT tournament games.

And this 44 point win over Oklahoma is now the largest margin of victory in Final Four history.
