Nat Championship Ticket Watch

Submitted by Gameboy on January 2nd, 2024 at 2:12 PM

Hopefully there will be a formal TicketWatch post, but until that is ready, would love some help on ideas around getting the tickets for the game. Mainly, would love some pointers around following topics:

  • What is the best time to buy the tickets?
  • Best site to buy tickets
  • Some other possible ways to get tickets
  • What seats to target
  • What seats to avoid

Got all the logistics taken care of and the only thing left is to get the actual tickets. And I am sure there are many on this board who are in the same boat.

I saw them drop about 40% after the Texas loss and snatched 2 up on SeatGeek.  Might not be the optimal time, but now I don't have to sweat all week. My seats are in the upper deck corner.  I wasn't too worried about location. Just went for the cheapest ones I could get.

Thank god Texas lost. I figured the prices would drop significantly if they did and it is happening right now. Just not sure how much longer I should wait.

I am also going to prioritize lower rows over sections. In my previous Final Four experiences, I had much better time watching the game when I didn't have to look over rows and rows of people.

hoping for some good news at 8:00 tonight..... if not, i'll be watching from the couch.

if that's the case..... I was watching from the couch yesterday and it turned out pretty good.

I did this for the rose bowl and the best answer is just to pick the big sites and look at all. Every site now gives you an option to view the price after fees by checking a box, so it’s really not very time consuming to compare. one site i found that surprisingly was cheaper than others for the rose bowl was looking at ticketmaster’s verified resale section. but at the end of the day, i would just switch between ticketmaster, stubhub, gametime, vivid seats, and ticketiq (an mgoblog sponsor). at the point, just pick what’s cheapest, there’s zero benefit really to having loyalty to any specific site.

FYI.  I’m going and have been watching pricing on Seat Geek closely.  Here’s a rundown of the cheapest “get in” pricing including fees over the past 24 hours or so:

8:00am yesterday- - $2,100

After M won - $2,400

Halftime Wash/Texas - $2,800

End of Wash/Texas - $2,100

8:00am today - $1,800

Now - $1,300

FWIW I’m waiting a few more days to see if the trend continues.

They haven't released the university allotments yet (delivered digitally on Thursday).  I imagine prices will go down when those become available for resale.  My gut feel was that prices would settle out <$1000/ticket a couple days in advance if Texas didn't make it.

posted this below too but there are a bunch of people waiting on the allotment to see if they’ll get tickets who aren’t buying right now. if they end up not getting tickets, they’ll all rush to the secondary market to buy, which might actually shoot the prices up if there isn’t also a big chunk of people that get the tickets just to sell them.

My partner and I were looking to go the Rose Bowl, but an unexpected death of a parent meant she was traveling a lot in Dec, and we decided to bail on Pasadena.

Decided to book flights to Houston just on the outside chance we'd get to go. Happy I did, but seeing ticket prices about $1000 really has me wondering if we should go.

Hoping they come somewhat down to earth this week.

Thanks for posting this, I've been on the fence about going with my 11 yo son from Boston.

One thing I noticed is that the package deals through the alumni association make it "almost" cost-effective to use them. For example, a 2 night hotel and transfer package for my son (who is under 12 so is a "child") and I would run about $3,500, including our tickets (which you have to add at $475 a piece). While we would still have to deal with getting there, and could save a lot by staying far outside of town, at least the $$ shelled out would be put towards a much more convenient lodging option (etc) and to some extent the alumni association instead of scalpers.

Of note, you do have to be an UM alum assn member to be eligible.

Feeling pretty dumb since I was so excited by the win that I bought at the absolute worst time and ended up with a not very good seat. Debating if I should sell it (for a huge loss) and buy a better seat. Now that I've wasted this much money, what's more money?

one thing to note about ticket allotment - a lot of people are pointing to the release of the school tickets as a point where tickets will drop. devils advocate - there are a lot of fans who want to go that are waiting on the ticket drop to see if they get tickets. when tickets are released, all that don’t qualify will be rushing to the market to buy secondary tickets. if there are a bunch more people that run to the market to buy than claim tickets just to sell (which wouldn’t be surprising), you could actually see a big jump in get in price.

I think all the people that are getting tickets from the U of M Athletic Department already know if and how many they got

i got an email on 12/14 telling me I got the 4 I requested and had till 12/15 to decline them

they charged my credit card today

FWIW - face is $900 each for corner seats in the 100 or 300 level

Found the seating chart on CFP website. Thought it may be helpful.
