Myles Sims in the Portal

As foretold by the ominous 40 added to his previous number, Myles Sims is exploring transfer options.

Got passed by better players with better attitudes? Never added necessary weight. Was dinged up at one point. A lot of factors came together to make him a third stringer this spring, and it became clear he just wasn't going to make it here.

247 continues to be the best evaluators of talent, in my eyes. They were way, way down on him by the end of his cycle compared to the composite.

247 also had Ben St Juste as a top 100 player. He's gone too. Either way UM can't keep losing guys at this rate in the secondary. It's not like they are out there signing top 100 guys at corner anymore like they did with Vert and David Long who are coming in ready to play, so it makes retaining everyone who is on the roster and developing them all the more important.

The hardest working best kids play.   It’s the reason 90% of the players transfer.   They lack either the work ethic or skill sets that those in front of them have.

Those that don’t see eye to eye with the coaching staff typically aren’t reaching their potential.    Some of them may go Tennessee and grow up and realize this.

Here is hoping he finds a good fit.

I just want to say i truly feel sorry for you. Someone who has to hid behind a keyboard and multiple accounts to antagonize random people on the internet you’ve never met in person is really sad. I don’t know what you’re going through or what you’ve been through but clearly it was or is traumatic. Sending positive vibes your way hoping you can find real humans to interact with to solve whatever it is you are going through.

Frankly, it would say he hasn't performed well at all.  If depth is a concern, that means there aren't many people in front of him.  If he can't manage to climb into the conversation or even generate any chatter, I'm not sure there should be a lot of concern here.

Not sure if you've been paying attention but outside Ambry and Lavert there is a lot of concern. Brian Cook said on Sam Webb's show today that UM can't play a third CB this year because Gray isn't ready yet based on what he saw in the spring game.

Brian has been pretty down on the defensive line too. If you believe his sentiments then UM won't be able to stop a nose bleed this season. I think he's a little too pessimistic.

The coaches can say whatever they want, the fact is none of those guys were good enough to get on the field regularly last year and OSU still torched this team for 63 points and it could have been worse. None of them have the ranking pedigree out of high school to suggest they are going to be anything special either. In fact I have way more questions than answers after seeing all of them play.

Who would have thought the late add of Vincent Gray would surpass the blue chip Myles Sims. Too bad, but not surprising after the lack of chatter regarding him.

Clearly you don't understand how Maizen's Star System works.

Myles Sims will be the biggest loss ever to the team and Gray simply doesn't belong on the same field as even Division III players. Therefore, Harbaugh and Michigan will never win another game ever again.

Despite my comment/joke, in general recruiting rankings do matter. I would much rather have a complete team of 4 stars vs. a complete team of 3 stars. I would much rather have 2-3 five stars every year than none at all.

However, when looking at individual players/examples, I think it is silly to simply rely on rankings to say a player will be good or bad.

Further exposes the glaring limitations of the "ranking" system, especially considering the bias for a Georgia recruit vs one from Michigan.

At the same time, it shows this staff can look past those "numbers" and find the hungry guys which is far more valuable than looking up a ranking online.

Wow this really stinks but like you said the number change was ominous. Cornerback depth was already thin and this just makes it thinner. He also becomes the 8th composite top 247 recruit to leave in the last three years - Asiasi (#77 overall), Solomon (#23 overall), Walker (#107 overall), Crawford (#118 overall), Singleton (#79 overall), Hudson (#231 overall), Irving Bey (#247 overall), and now Sims (#170 overall). And that's not accounting for all the other attrition from guys ranked outside of that range. That's a lot of talent walking out the door.

Asiasi, Solomon, Crawford, and Hudson were all either starters or projected starters when they left. DIB, Walker, Singleton, and Sims were projected all projected to be major contributors when they committed, only Walker stayed more than 1 year. Obviously attrition is going to happen at every program but so many highly ranked guys leaving after one year is not typical.

Asiasi was a projected starter - got homesick

Solomon would have been in the rotation - could never stay healthy

Crawford was passed up on the depth chart

Hudson left because he was passed up on the depth chart - Walker was passed up too

Being a projected starter, but then getting passed up by someone else is why Hudson, Crawford and presumable SIngleton and Sims all left

DIB left because of playing time or grades as I believe he transferred to CMU but is no longer there

everyone is projected to contribute when they commit - if they get passed up, it is good for both the kid and the program for them to move on

and this is happening everywhere
