MSU sinks to new low

Submitted by goody on

Not only has MSU fans created a shirt commemorating their victory over Michigan, but have gone a did this .....  http://tedfox.dotphoto.com/CPListAlbums.asp

Congrats on the win.  I am not taking anything away from MSU fans, but come on.  I know the saying act like you been there before comes to mind ........ but you haven't been there in a while.   Also,  "Win with class" ...... these acts show that you have none.

So enjoy your t-shirts and billboards and laugh and smile at Michigans expense but Michigan does play you again and they will remember.

Hahahaha!  Those stupid douches...  This really is hilarious.  They've beat us one time in 6 years - and will probably lose to us again next year - and make shirts about it!?  All this does is underscore what losers they are.  Tools.

Sparty NO!

MSU is MSU and this is precisely why no one respects them when they pull crap like this and put a billboard up for beating quite possibly the worst Michigan team of all time.

All you have to do to show who is more arrogant is compare who talks the most shit before and after a game. Spartan fans, at least all the ones that I know, talk shit about everything, (basketball, football, hockey, etc.)and do so even if their team is awful. If you look at football, how much shit have they talked the last 7 years, a whole hell of a lot even though all they've done is lose, either in hilarious or heartbreaking fashion, and yet they talk talk talk shit. Look at Michigan fans and our basketball program, not once on campus have I heard the following interaction:

Michigan: Our basketball team is so sick, Beilein is going to crush Izzo, this is our year Sparty, you'll see.

Sparty: How about you guys win something first and then talk.

M: OMG you're so arrogant! Don't you know that as John Beilein said last year when you pummeled us, "pride comes before the fall" and its not over Sparty, when we finally win it'll count for more than one.

 -------

Seriously, you will never ever hear this conversation from a Michigan fan, and why is that? Because you don't talk unless you can back it up with a few Ws. MSU-UofM basketball is not a rivalry right now, and it isn't because it is one sided, when you have a championship calliber team and a team that struggles to get 10 wins and never beats the other its not a rivalry anymore, not until we win. Once Michigan basketball starts winning then you'll see Michigan fans start the chest thumping, and maybe to Sparty that makes us "bad fans" but suporting your team and talking massive amounts of shit are two entirel different things. Sparty has yet to figure this concept out.

Never beats it's rival?  Am I the only one that knows we are 2-3 in the last five games against MSU in basketball?  The point of your post must be correct because we have gloated so little about our last two victories most fans of both schools forgot they happened.

I guess we forgot to thump our chests and declare that Spartan basketball dominance has ended and we were all of a sudden a better program due to the score in one game.  Difference is we are smart enough to know that's not the case.

I don't really hear any basketball talk on campus, actually.

He's attempting to equate MSU football and UM basketball. Sparty packed their stadium for years for terrible teams under Booby Williams and JLS the cowboy. Crisler almost never sells out, which is pathetic for a Big Ten program with the resources and history like ours.

You missed my point: it's stupid to point out that more MSU football fans talk shit than UM basketball fans. Is it really great to brag to Sparty fans that no one cares enough about UM basketball to talk shit?

Sorry it went over your head.

It was misplaced at best.

Read his post again. He wasn't comparing Michigan basketball to Spartan football...he was comparing the recent one-sided nature in each of the series, and how the opposing fanbases react to it. You were merely taking a shot at the Michigan basketball team.

Why was it stupid for him to point out how ignorant Spartan fans are again?

Eh, let them have their fun.  It's more amusing than anything...I never would have thought there would be so much celebration over beating a 2-6 team.  I just wonder what happens to the website when we beat them again next year?

You'd think if Navy could refrain from billboards and t-shirts following the end of a 44-year streak of futility against Notre Dame, MSU could somehow do the same after seven years.

Not so much, apparently.  Since I've been a UVA fan (2000, my first year there) we've beaten Tech exactly once, and I'd be thoroughly embarrassed to wear a t-shirt that said SCOREBOARD on it like that one if we win this year.  I mean, there's nothing like a t-shirt to say "we haven't done this for a long time and we might not ever again."  Which may well be true in LB's case.

People care a lot about UofM basketball, and I count myself as one of those people. I go to all of the games and actually enjoy the team (even if they are awful). I also enjoy discussing the program, and I think that Beilein has us headed in the right direction which makes me excited about our basketball team in the coming years.

However, you totally missed my point MichiganDiff and that point being: when you suck, you don't talk shit. For instance; I am also a Lions fan, and I love the Lions, regardless of what others might think, but I never say to my close friends who are Packers fans, "OMG u suck! restore the roar!!!! We own u, u will see! KITNAAAAAA!!!". There is a difference between talking shit and loving your team.

"Is it really great to brag to Sparty fans that no one cares enough about UM basketball to talk shit?"

There is no A = B here, "I talk shit to others, so therefore I am a good fan and I care". Being an asshole and talking shit is not the same thing as caring about and supporting your team. If your team is a world destroyer and dominating year in and year out, then by all means, talk shit, but if you are say, the Lions, then shut the fuck up, becuase no one wants to hear you as a fan bragging about your Lions when they are far and away the worst team in football. You can still cheer, be loud, get all decked out in your Lions gear on gameday, go to Ford Field and scream bloody murder on player-X's head without being an obnoxious d-bag talking shit about how great the Lions are when they are 0-6. This, is Sparty in a nutshell.

See the difference? Reading comprehention works wonders!

Please don't tell me you will bunch every Spartan fan in with these idiots.  This behavior, in my opinion, is the exception to the rule.  I would not attempt to do the same to the Wolverine (or any other) fanbase.

Because one person made a T-shirt or Billboard or whatever, this does not mean it is the typical thought process of your average Sparty fan.

I will say though, that as a Spartan fan, I am thoroughly embarrassed that our OFFICIAL athletic website is selling this shit.  Pathetic.

The win was great, and it is a step in the right direction, but it doesn't erase the UM domination of this rivalry.

I've lived in East Lansing for just over six years now and, sadly, this is the majority.  Not saying there aren't decent MSU fans out there, my best friend is one, but it's a case of the 90% or so giving the rest a bad name.  When you see crap like this.  When you see bars packed with MSU fans giving a "meh" when state beats their noon opponent but absolutely going nuts when UM loses to their a few minutes later, or go to the ND v. MSU game at Spartan Stadium and see more shirts mocking UM than anything else, then you know that this isn't the minority.  There are bumper stickers out there with "My two favorite teams are MY TEAM and whoever plays OUR BIGGEST RIVAL".  Sadly for most Spartans those priorities are reversed.

A few years ago, at the end of the season, Michigan needed MSU to knock off Wisconsin so we could get a share of the Big Ten title and a Rose Bowl berth (we didn't play Wisconsin head-to-head that year).  We were all cheering for State because it directly helped Michigan for them to win that game. Later I asked a number of Spartan would they, had the situation been reversed, cheer for Michigan?  The answer was no, almost to a one.

Yay Rush N Attack! At least one person has basic reading comp skills.

Here, I'll make it really simple:

Sparty and M on.....BASKETBALL

Sparty: You guys suck so hard at basketball! scUM cheaters! lol u guys are gonna get owned by the IZZONE'S HUGE COCK BRAH! Sparty On!

M: Yeah, we're not very good right now, but Beilein has got us on the way up. We've got a few good recruits coming in the next few years.

Sparty and M on......FOOTBALL

M: lol Sparty u guys suck so hard at football, and Dantonio is such a fucktard! Pereles cheaters!!!! Henne to Manningham bitches!!!I can't wait for your annual lolz COLLAPSE!!! CLOCK RULE!!! U TRIPPED DESMOND!!!

Sparty: You arrogant scUM!!! We will own you!! You will see, you cheaters, Woodley + Stanton TREACHEROUS SHOULDER and scUM stole Woodley from us!!!!! We will have our revenge!! DANTONIO!!!!!!!!! RINGER'S COCK IS HUGE BRAH!!

------------

.................no comment

But these are pretty much the typical Sparty-M rivalry convos I hear, not the exception to the rule (minus the huge cocks).

"When we win, it's just that the Universe is where it is supposed to be. No bragging, It just is. "

Oh, yeah. Michigan wins with class, every time. There is no bragging. They always act like they've been there before.

I remember last year's game. Wolverines marching out of the stadium, throwing things at me and my friends, chanting "It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine!" and laughing. Then you call us "Little Brother" for the next year (and continue to do it after getting whipped). Is it any wonder we're rubbing it in now?

msu fan? beat us in a year we're good and maybe you'll earn a little respect. in fact, for all the celebrating you guys are doing when you beat a 2-6 team, i'm afraid of what would happen if you guys beat a good uofm team. (good thing that only happens once every 15 years).

also, this whole series of events has pretty much solidified your place as little brother

Yinka Double Dare

October 28th, 2008 at 7:59 PM ^

Gee, it wasn't like the entire Spartan fan base didn't constantly bring up Appalachian State every day all season, or that a bunch of them wore ASU shirts to the Michigan/MSU game, or that some of the players ran their mouth about it or anything like that.

You guys brought the gloating on yourselves last year. If you're a dick for 2 whole months, you can't be surprised when you get that thrown back in your faces.

And stuff like your athletic department making a T-shirt celebrating one regular season win (over a 2-5 team that MSU was favored to beat no less) is just another example of why Michigan fans make fun of MSU football fans.  That was a total "little brother" move and even a fair number of Spartan fans know it and wish those shirts weren't being sold, because they know it makes the whole MSU fan base look like idiots - the athletic department made those shirts because they know they'll sell like hotcakes.  For one regular season win when you have a chance to win the conference if you win out.

Dr. Worm,

You've come on this board, day after day, post after post, for 3 days now, to complain about Michigan fans "losing without class" or something like that. As I've said each time - you clearly want to provoke a reaction that you can complain about. If you want to gloat over your win do so - but understand that a Michigan forum won't bow and kiss your toes. IF you want reverence, I'd reccomend a different forum.

DoctorWorm

October 28th, 2008 at 10:56 PM ^

I don't have a problem with losing without class. But losing without class then saying that you have class is a different story. The "You suck!" cheers on third down, the garbage being thrown at Spartan fans, etc. does not scream "classy program" to me. All I've been doing is pointing out the obvious hypocrisy in some of the statements on here. Do I expect people to "bow and kiss [my] toes"? Absolutely not. But I do expect to see some of that much-vaunted Michigan education at work in recognizing simple things like irony and hypocrisy.

And yeah, part of that is also wanting to provoke a reaction. It's good fun.

The defintion of Irony: Renting a digital billboard to taunt another fanbase for their arrogance....ON A BILLBOARD.

Everyone knows that Sparty is much more interested in antagozing Michigan than cheering for their own teams. If they had a choice, watch Moo-U win every game they play from here to eternity, or watch Michigan lose every game they play for the rest of eternity, they choose the latter in a heartbeat.

Brick, your post sir, was genius.

I realize that over the last 3 seasons we are a combined 2-3, but over the last 7 seasons i think we are something like 4-8. I think the fact that a lot of people don't know this or do know this and say the rivalry is one sided has much to do with the relative successes of the two programs. One makes the NCAA tournament every season, and is constantly in competition for both BigTen and National Championships while the other has not been to the NCAA Tournament in 10 years and as of last year, failed to make the NIT. So even if we get a W over Sparty in basketball we know where their team stands and where our team stands, and the chest thumping is kept to a minimal.

I still can't get over the fact that their athletic department made a fucking T-shirt commemorating their victory over U of M. It is mind blowing as well as absolutely hilarious and further perpetuates the "little brother" stereotype. Appy State and Toledo combined weren't this happy when they beat us. I mean ULMonroe is telling Sparty that their celebration is over the top.

But then again, it's all just so very Sparty isn't it?

Sad.

Brick

October 29th, 2008 at 12:56 AM ^

It is also sad that ealier this year one of the Spartan sports writers named the UM loss vs APP State as one of the greatest moments in Spartans sports history.  Seriously, a game they did not play in made the list.  I wonder if a victory over our 2-6 team will now make the top 5 greatest Spartan moments.  SAD.

The loss to MSU sucks, but LET IT GO. It's one year. Christ, there are a few posters on here that just go on and on about how much MSU obsesses and clamors for attention and look at this: multiple diaries and threads all devoted to bashing MSU. They want a rivalry, fine. Embrace it and back it up. Don't be like Mike. Mike Hart syndrome: talking empty trash. He came back to beat Ohio State and he ran his mouth until he left with the bagel against the Bucks. That's bush league and bull crap. Ohio State wears its hatred for Michigan on its sleeve with "We Don't Give a Damn..." How about that? How about we hear some talk about the Buckeyes, a team that HASN'T beat us this year and who we have a shot to dethrone? That's the only game that matters now.

2002-03: Jan 26 @ UM 60-58 W, 1-0

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/teams/schedule?teamId=130&year=2008

That's a record of 3-7 over the last 6 years, and a record of 2-3 (!!!!!) over our last 5 games (3 years). Honestly, do some research before making yourself look like an ass.I mean seriously, look at your post gater, you substituted last year with two years ago, then just plain left out 2006-07 and therefore botched everything. Then you declare our math incorrect when you just plain screwed up. Definition of fail.

I did "let it go" two days ago but it keeps being brought back up by Sparties on campus, and through shit like this, and I'm all for squashing Sparty wherever he rears his ugly head, no pun intended.

They're also selling "Holy Toledo! 13-10!" shirts in East Lansing stores.  Those'll go nice in their closets next to the App State shirts.  Seriously, some enterprising fellow is making a ton of money off creating t-shirts every time we get upset embarassingly.
