"What can you say about a fan base that thinks a loss should be rewarded? Never mind their incessant complaining after dropping (gasp!) in the rankings after losing to No. 1 Ohio State in 2006"

If you lose to the number 1 team, isn't that better than losing to an unranked team in terms of poll position?   Also, the whining was based on shameless politicking by Urban Cryer, and we made him our bitch last year.

", they actually think the rest of the country cares about their rivalry with the Buckeyes."

It's only nationally acclaimed as the biggest rivalry.

"Maybe if the game actually determined a legit BCS title contender, we would."

I think OSU has 3 title game appearances, including beating the OMG BEST TEAM ever of Miami (yes, that Miami) in 2003. Oh, but you threw the word "legit" on there.  I see what you did there.   VTech, FSU, Nebraska were all blown out too.  Then Oklaholma lost a pair, including one blowout uglier than either of OSU's losses.

"But without a doubt, Michigan fans are the whiniest fans in college football. - Lisa Horne"

Then they should be ranked number one on your list.  But hey, don't let facts get in the way of a shitty article.

It wasn't that UM dropped in the rankings after the loss -- they didn't drop at all the following week.  It two weeks later when Florida eeked out a win in the SEC championship game and both polls suddenly dropped UM.  Doesn't really make much sense.

I'm a Michigan fan, and I find large parts of our fanbase obnoxious.

But not for the reasons she states.

by someone looking to get page hits for her employer, nothing more.  the thought process was probably along the lines of, "let's see how much inflammatory stuff we can come up with about the top programs in the country which will make people come to our site woohoo yeah."

do us all a favor and don't click that link.

I didn't think that "obnoxious" and "whiny" were synonyms.  I thouroughly agree, however, that all teams on that list (other than Michigan, of course) are correctly placed and are, indeed, obnoxious.  I have at least one personal anecdote relating to a fan of each of those schools and (trust me on this)  they were all total douches.  Total Douches.

Believe it or not, Northwestern's fan base can get incredibly obnoxious when they're successful. I guess they're obnoxious even when they lose. I once saw them play Illinois at the old Dyche Stadium, and when they were losing the students began "taunting" Illinois by chanting "State school . . . State school."

Which is pretty douchey and tough to take, but I'd prefer it over, I don't know, throwing beer cans, keying cars, screaming "Fuck Michigan!" at my kids/elderly mother, that sort of thing.  Now that's obnoxious, but perhaps that just ranks as "spirited" in her book.

They have all produced great teams over the last 15-20 yrs and scattered good and very good teams the rest of the years.  Just another case of the emo /goth/unpopular kids hating the pretty/jock/popular kids.  Take this list as a compliment because it is not the most obnoxious fans, but more like the most successful teams.

Other than Notre Dame, they have not been relavent for many a moons and still thinks they're the shit.

Also a shocker, they are some of the largest fan bases in the country and some of the most tradition-rich programs in CFB. Piss off the huge, huge masses that make up the UM, ND, USC, OSU, UF, etc fan bases and you'll get a lot of hits on that site. I'm not exactly offended, just annoyed at the dumb reasons why said fan bases are obnoxious.

OT: Watching intro to USF/Kansas, ESPN says "Two scrappy [ed: small white] QBs that no one else recruited." I died a little bit inside.
