The most annoying sports fan you know...
Does anyone know a fellow Michigan "fan" who thinks they know everything about sports, yet in truth they know next to nothing?
There's a guy who works for my company who constantly talks about Michigan football and tries to spread his insight because he has a "friend who works in the athletic department." Who knows if it's true. But if he does, that friend is an idiot and feeds him garbage.
Last year, he told me that MSU wanted to get rid of Kirk Cousins because he was a "bad influence on the team." Yesterday, he struck up a conversation with me and went on and on about Michigan's "Coach Holt" and "Gerard Robinson." Recently he told me that Boise is going to pound MSU. I asked him why...the response:
- "They have that great quarterback." ME: "Kellen Moore? He plays for the Lions now."
- "Oh, but they have a good RB too." ME: "Doug Martin? He plays for the Buccaneers now."
- "Yeah, but they have that Titus guy." ME: "He plays for the Lions too."
Does anyone else run into people like this? I must admit that I sometimes find joy in my conversations based on the absurdity that comes out of his mouth. Other times, it's just downright painful to listen to.

Most of the posts have been about fairweather bandwagon fans. These are annoying. Being a White Sox fan since childhood, growing up in the city of Chicago proper, I've always been annoyed by the bandwagon Cubs fans. There are too many fans who just like to go to Wrigley to get drunk who don't know squat about the Cubs. At least they get the team they deserve. The Cubs will never win, and they don't need to: the stands at Wrigley are always full, so there really is little motivation for an owner to ever pay for a winning team.
A different kind of annoying is the fan who literally knows all the stats. There's a friend I used to live with (now works for a school at UofM in their accounting area) who knows just about everything possible about the Red Wings, the Tigers, and Michigan. His mind for statistical trivia is astounding. It isn't always obnoxious, but years ago, it was murder playing sports trivial pursuit against him. You could never win. His personality isn't annoying, but someone with that amount of sports knowledge in their head has the potential to really be a pain.

The worst sports fans in world routinely insult the intelligence of other fan bases, while misspelling multiple words in their post and ignoring basic grammar.
Seriously, don't call someone an "idoit."

is sadly a Michigan fan.
A friend of a friend who is the stereotypical scoin of the bluebloods. His family has had 50 yrd line seats for 3 generations yet knows absolutely squat about the team . Since I'm a walmart wolverine he wont discuss his alma mater's football program with me. (doesn't realize he's actually doing me a favor!)

I knew a guy once who thought Chad Henne sucked his whole time at Michigan. I asked him to name his prototypical Wolverines quarterback (Grbac? Navarre? Brady?). Couldn't name one. He and his family had tickets for years.

I was hoping this was the thread where I get to post my least favorite MGoBlog posters again. That was fun.

For me, there's almost complete overlap (across least favorite Michigan fans and least favorite MGoBlog posters). I guess I'm either fortunate or picky with the people I spend time with in person.

Where might I find that thread? Sounds like fun.

I seem to remember it getting pulled pretty quickly. It was someone's counterpost to "Favorite MGoBoard Posters" and it got ugly fast. As usual, I was more than partially responsible.

Full disclosure - I am an MSU fan and alum. I am from southeastern Michigan and my HS was pretty much in Ohio, so we have a lot of OSU and UM fans. I was reading this board to get an idea on the upcoming Alabama game - can't really do worse than we did last time we played 'Bama.
With that said, the most annoying fan base that I have witnessed in person was Alabama. I have been around annoying UM, MSU, and OSU fans, but the Alabama fans take the cake. I was at our Capital One bowl "game", and their fans were obnoxious and openly cheering for an injury late in the game.
As for the most annying individual fan, there is a UM fan who I went to school with who is absolutely annoying. I realize it may look like I am only saying that because I am a MSU person, but he would be the most annoying even if he cheered for MSU. He continually posts Facebook statuses about Sparty this and Sparty that during every single game - I am talking about multiple times during a single quarter in a game. Anytime UM loses or MSU/OSU win it is always the refs who took/gave the game away. I don't think they have ever accepted a loss without blaming someone else.
I am fully aware there are extremely annoying MSU fans and sometimes, more like a lot of times, give the normal fans an extremely bad name.

I have a big time with people who didn't go to our school talking shit to other schools about their academics or integrity... I really don't like negative banter anyway, but when someone who couldn't get into michigan has the audacity to put down OSU or MSU grads for their schools 'ease' I want to kick them right in their butts!

I'm getting tired of the "You can't be a real fan if you didn't attend...." that I see a lot on here. I don't need a physical connection to justify my emotional connection and you thinking otherwise kind of makes you an asshole.
Oh and Mississippi State fans with their cowbells.
August 30th, 2012 at 8:01 AM ^
At the same time, there are a lot of aspects of the University and athletics that people who didn't attend can misrepresent.
It's tough to listen to sports radio Michigan fans because they, who generally didn't attend the school, represent the school poorly.
That doesn't mean you can't be a fan if you didn't go to a school, but you should do your best to remember that this is college athletics and not pro sports. These are students competing. The University is much bigger than the football program. Things like that, I think, are better acknowledged by those that have an official connection (alum, job, family connection) to the school.

I just said that if you didn't go here then you sholdn't talk about academics or integrity in a negative manner towards rival schools.
You can root for whomever you want. Reread what I wrote buddy...
