Moderator Action Sticky 2016

New season means new sticky, since these get cumbrously long.

What happened to your thread.

What this thread is for: It's an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

Don't comment in this thread unless you have to: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted (see: "cumbrously long").

Before you look for your thread or argue read this:

Things we will moderate harder this year:
  1. Politics. It's an election year; don't even bother.
  2. Useless content from other sites. There are a lot of sites feeding a lot of Michigan content out there, and a lot of that is good stuff. But more than ever these days a lot of it is just stuff which tries to tickle your fancy or make you mad about something. 247, WTKA always get the benefit of the doubt. Sharp, Valenti or Chatsports will lose you your posting priveleges without exception.
  3. Bewbs and general misogyny/objectifying of women. We're sick of it, our female readership is even sicker of it, and any value you might place on the comfort of cutting loose with the guys is worth less to us than the damage it does with tens of thousands of our readers.
You know what? Go read this again:

Hall of Stickies Past:
The first, the second, the third. the fourth. The fifth.

Great Moments in Moderation:
This is a very good read:

This is the 4th or 5th post about politics that the OP posted knowing it was going to be locked. Can you ban these users to discourage this? It's really out of control.

We're in substantial debt apparently?

One of the awesome things about this place is that we're engaged enough that we even take a keen interest in the department's balance sheet.

This was discussed at great length just the other day.

The Lewis thread was really well handled. Discrete editing kept things reasonably civilized while still allowing discussion, locked but not stricken after a lot of discussion had taken place. Given the gravity of the charge and the affection the fanbase has for Lewis, it's the platonic ideal for a thread discussing that kind of topic. Good work.

MGoCallOut: What say you, Stringer Bell?

Threads like this, singling out other MGoUsers, are always a bad idea. I really don't care if I get singles out for threads or comments that go, but don't do this to others.

The "Blashill" thread has devolved into things like "shut the fuck up" directed at another commenter.  It really needs to be cleaned up--it's not a good look.

This would have been funny if they hadn't made the tournament. Getting knocked out in the 2nd round by a 1-seed is respectable enough that this joke feels lame.

but...

PARALYPSIS!!!

Saying you don't like a thing "BUT" then saying that thing is called a paralypsis. Or parallipsis. Or something like that. Anyway it's totally a thing that I didn't just make up right now to describe a figure of rhetoric where someone tries to pretend they sympathize with the critical flaw in their argument then makes the argument anyway.

I don't want to pile on Michigan State BUT they DID go 3-9 last year.

Also Notre Dame went 4-8.

Team Insights from Orlando Malone (Father of Corey)

From the post the OP copied:

Decided to drop a few nuggets to sooth everyone's mind (bball loss) and help launch spring ball tomorrow. If this stuff show up anywhere, I will go on another self imposed "post band."

So, let's not be THAT blog....

A total destruction of reality.

A post that was apparently so deep that whatever was heard could not be repeated for public consumption. I guess we "might of" (OP's words) missed it after all.

I'm curious why the student loan post was deleted?  That's a topic, espeically in a place like this where so, so many are either students or recent graduates, would find enormous value (particularly the PSLF portion).  Just curious...

Can we have a blog-wide primer and guidelines about domestic violence? Every time there's a thread about an athlete involved in an incident, it inevitably turns into a rather disgusting display of victim-blaming, speculation inevitably in favor of said athlete, longwinded hot takes on how men are attacked too, and generally hostile behavior towards a very real problem that affects countless women in this country. It's gross, and shouldn't be tolerated here.

Yes.

  • Innocent until proven guilty
  • No politics
  • Hot takez suck. Think twice before sharing yours, especially if you just want to make a general or moral statement that doesn't apply to the specific case. This is because we all share the same exact moral standard--Consent--so telling us this is boring and tends to egg on others to respond with...
  • Victim-blaming and other particularly disgusting takes will be deleted.
  • The above will also result in loss of points or banning depending on the degree and disgustingness
  • The above is the moderator's discretion, so moderate your behavior to whatever you think the moderator thinks.

I too thought Harbaugh had another kid. Let's save the memeing for when he does literally burn Georgia to the ground. Don't think it won't happen dudes!
