Minnesota Roll Call

Submitted by Walter Sobchak on

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Im sure all of us are greatly anticipating this weekends game.   My wife are making the trip out to Minneapolis from SE Michigan.   Anyone else headed out for the game?

I've thought about that, there's that city park on the East Bank that hosts parking for the game. If this were a 3:30 game that's probably what I would try. Regardless, I'd love to see what you thought of it after, since Michigan will be back some day and a family trip would be nice in the future.

I was planning on going up to Minneapolis for this game since last year, but my niece decided to get married on Halloween down in Alabama.  Wedding's at 4:30, and game starts at 6:00.  I will sequester myself to watch the game as best as possible during the reception, but it's a sit-down dinner, and my elderly mother expects that I am her escort, since my SO is not coming.

We live in the western suburbs. Going to make it a party weekend. 6 of us are checking into a downtown Mpls hotel Saturday afternoon, bar hop, then jump on the train to the game. Will be back downtown after the game to party, then brunch the next morning.

What everyone is saying about tailgating is true - not going to happen near campus unless you know someone. Bars will be jammed in Dinkytown but if you get there early you may get a seat or place to stand.

Can't help with the flagpole question, sorry.

The tailgate sponsored by the local U club is sold out, but you could try to get in last minute if they have cancellations? (McNamara Alumni Center across from the stadium).

In hindsight, I should have rented out the party room at my Senior Gopher's apartment building that is very close to the stadium and hosted a tailgate!!

If anyone has any other questions, I would be happy to try to help.

Haven't used it to a game yet. It's called the Green Line and you will want the Stadium Village stop.

I imagine it will be crowded before the game. If the game isn't a close one, people will leave at different times so it might not be too bad. If close, yes, there will probably be waits.

If you've ever been to Evanston for a game, it won't be like that. That is crazy after a game.

I think you should be ok, they run fairly frequently and you should hopefully only have to wait a train or two.

We are planning on leaving downtown around 5 in order to be in our seats with a beer by kickoff.

about Evanston. That was out away game last year and of course due to the three overitmes, no one left until it was over so the train scene was like freaky. Coupled with pouring rain. We had to hang back a bit and wait for some of the throng to go down because I am claustrophobic and that thing was a nightmare.

But have been on the green line for the Vikings. It will be packed, but I've never had to wait for the next train due to crowds. They also run about every 10 minutes, and will keep running until about 1am.

I plan to bargate not on campus, but either somewhere downtown (Jackson's Hole is official Michigan bar and is near the Hennepin Ave. Green line stop) or on Hennepin on the east side of the river (New Bohemia is as close to a tailgate as you can get in a bar - huge TVs, 30+ taps, and 15 different varieties of brats, in addition to other bar food).

As an alternative tailgate experience, I'd recommend doing some of the breweries in northeast minneapolis. You can walk between them, and they all have food trucks parked on site for food. Once you're ready to head towards TCF, an uber wouldn't be more than $10.

My wife and I are flying in early Friday afternoon and are staying downtown. We are planning on getting lunch Saturday at Surly when they open then wandering around through campus and Dinkytown after that. We would be willing to meet up with others if anybody wants to try and organize something.

I now live in the great socialist state that is Minnesota.  I will be staying downtown but am looking for a place to pregame with Michigan fans.  I'm not familiar enough yet with downtown to know where the Mich bars are.  Any help?  I'll be in Section 215 with the wife (Hawkeye) and two Gophers.  Where are road warriors sitting?

If there is no Michigan bar, I would suggest the Seven Corners area.  A mile from TCF on Washington St. just on the west side of the river.  Three bars there within 100 yards of each other.  The Corner Bar is the best for TVs, the Republic has the best food, and Town Pub has decent beer.  Dinkytown is closer and will be packed, but probably more fun if you can get there early.  We need a Michigan bar!

I want to be at this game so badly. The wife was nice enough to come to Ann Arbor with me for our homecoming game so now I am returning the favor by going to her homecoming game. The only issue is that her game is starting an hour after ours against Minnesota. Really hoping my WATCH ESPN app is working properly. I've never tried using it at a game before.

Section 142 - Row 1 - Right behind the Gophers sideline and exactly where they should be keeping the jug before it's reclaimed.

I'll be one of two dressed as Jim Harbaugh.

On the 0830 Friday am flight out of DTW.  Meeting some friends there.  Will likely be at BW3 watching the Iowa game before heading into the stadium.  Excited for a fun weekend in MSP.  Bring home the Jug!

My wife and I are Minneapolis residents, so I had this game circled on the calendar for months. A very close friend of mine who works for a local radio stations knows how fanatical I am about Michigan. One day he advised me that a surprise was coming and be ready for the end of October. Last week he advised me that I would be his assistant and a part of the Media. So I honored to stand on the field before gametime and then move up to the Press Box for the remainder. Hopefully, I will be able to get some great coverage (pictures and stories) to share with everyone.

Live in southern MN, have a group of about 24 from all over the country driving in. Tailgating at fairgrounds, very convenient and easy traspotation before and after the game.

Moved to Minneapolis about a month ago, probably won't go to the actual game since I haven't met any big college football fans here yet, but I might go down to the stadium area to check it out.

Since you're new to these parts, I'll pass on a little info. Not sure if you're on your own, but if so, hopefully you've found some people to hang out with. This article is pretty accurate regarding "Minnesota Nice". In general, the locals tend to stay close to their childhood friends and it often takes a while to crack the inner circle. Of course that's not the case with everyone - just fairly common. I imagine there is a local UM alumni group - probably a good place to start.
