until this officially qualifies as a meltdown thread? edit: on second thought, it seems like he's trying to mitigate the damage. not a melt down ime, but for the record the best way to mitigate damage is to refrain from posting for at least a few hours.

On a serious note, I wonder why they ever put the Halo up in the first place. You'd think that the drafts/designs or whatever they did for it would show how out of place and gaudy it looked so that they could just scrap the idea and move on, but whatever.

the architect, Robert Venturi, who designed it is very famous and has won very many prestigious awards. he wrote a book called Complexity and Contradiction in architecture in which he chided modern architecture for its lack of communicating to the populous, which in 1966 when he wrote it you couldn't really disagree with. the point is that they didn't just farm this out to the janitorial staff. from what i remember of Goss' tenure, hiring the right people was not his strong suit, for architects eithher i guess. i never really liked venturi's work prior to the halo, but i think that the halo pretty much exemplifies the fact that the times have passed him by.

Thanks for the informative background. I looked up some of his works and can't believe that he designed the halo. It doesn't seem to match any of his other works - which all seem to have been done by a professional and not a six year old. As for the times passing him by...I don't think there ever was a time for that piece of shit halo. Hopefully, RR's jock jamz join the halo in embarrassing-michigan-moments-corrected history.
