Michigan Monday: East Carolina Reapers edition is up
Interesting read. G seemed to be a little pissy about Harbaugh and the whole suspension, plus ragging on the players for supporting him. I guess he forgot when OSU had the big to-do for the Vest after he was booted for an actual cover up of illegal activity, but whatever...

Ah dammit, I forgot I can't edit the OP. I meant to add, Gerdman does give a nice shoutout to Jim Abbot on the anniversary of his no-hitter, at the very end of the article.

No humor in this one. Kind of sour.

It’s happens once you start carrying the scars of defeat and doubt.

Perhaps a little BPONE creeping in down in Nutland?
I expect a war this year in Ann Arbor. The Nuts had gotten used to beating us every year. Then we emasculated them in '21.
Going into '22 the Nuts were confident. '21 was a fluke, order was about to be restored, they thought. They were clearly the better team. Look at all of their 5 stars! We struggled early, running mindlessly into stacked boxes until we finally decided to take what they were giving us. Then we gashed them until they hung their heads in hopelessness and despair at the start of the 4th.
"They are what we thought they were!" (Mikey)
Then we planted our flag in the middle of their O.
The question marks they have at QB and OL may be too great to overcome but they have an entire season to prepare for The Game. I expect some desperation from them and a great effort, until once again, late in the 4th quarter, their souls are crushed in heartwrenching defeat.
Go blue!

Seems a little red assed eh. I think he took his own team’s frustrations out in his writing this week.

I didn't get the feeling that he was especially pissy about Harbaugh nor ragging on the players; the line that they "held up four fingers for Jim Harbaugh’s favorite Wendy’s order" was funny.
Not the best MM that Tony has done, but his material didn't give him much to work with.

Probably extra salty that his team looks mortal for a change

G is bitter. Was all fun and games when they were beating UM like a drum.
The concern and BPONE is strong with OSU these days, after the past 2 beatdowns in the THE GAME and now the poor offensive showing this past week against Indiana.
Their desperation is growing. OSU is always dangerous. Need to put the foot on their neck this year.

His snark was clever, I'll give him that.
September 5th, 2023 at 12:01 AM ^
Very pissy.
Remember when he was kind with pity when he would write about Michigan when we were losing? Now his coverage is nit-picky negative across the board.
Good.

He raises a good point about us wearing teams down. It will happen less frequently... Wonder how that impacts scores
September 5th, 2023 at 12:24 AM ^
I was never a fan of the whole "body-blows" philosophy of offense. We tied our own hands too much with it. So anything that discourages us from trying it too much is a good thing.

Not a fan of something that worked to the tune of consecutive conference championships for the first time in forever.
How is that possible?
Fortunately, for UM they are now in a position to win games without relying on wearing teams down. Harbaugh knows what he's doing.

Personally I much prefer the “put the game out of reach and sit the starters for the 4th quarter” approach to the “bash Corum into an overloaded box until he finally starts getting 6YPC instead of 3” concept of “wearing them down”.

His bit feels tired now that t(tm)OSU is putting up 23 points versus Indiana. Gerdman's whole M/O was arrogantly smart assing Michigan. It's less relevant (and comes off as sour) when you are less dominant.

I'm still not sure why it's been consistently given MGoBlog space all these years. I don't think every halfway-decent writer from OSU is a must-read.
September 5th, 2023 at 10:27 AM ^
It's fine in the message board - I don't think I've seen Brian/Seth reference it in years, if ever.

I don't think every halfway-decent writer from OSU is a must-read.
Perhaps there are sufficiently few of them that it does rate mention. ;)

G seemed to be a little pissy about Harbaugh and the whole suspension, plus ragging on the players for supporting him
For as long as he’s written this column, this has been his tell - the stronger Michigan is, the more snarky/salty his comments on Michigan are. The worse Michigan is, the more patronizing his comments are.
September 5th, 2023 at 5:02 AM ^
Very cool he mentioned Jim Abbot's no-no. More than offsets his snarky Harbaugh takes. I do wonder if he recalls the JT spot whilst discussing the abilities and reproducibility of referees...
September 5th, 2023 at 7:43 AM ^
I know all fanbases, including and especially Michigan's, are prone to both hyperbole and hypocrisy but OSU fans are probably the last group to whine about players showing support for a coach who was caught breaking rules they feel were pretty dumb.
September 5th, 2023 at 7:47 AM ^
So Michigan only ran well against OSU last year after the defense got worn down? I'm pretty sure it was scheme
September 5th, 2023 at 1:10 PM ^
I actually thought he made a great point about how Michigan's running game will have a harder time wearing out defenses with the new clock rules. I'm concerned about it. Fortunately this year we look like we have a passing game...

Being critical of UM’s CB recruiting, because a transfer and walk on started is telling on the OSU media/fan base mindset. Stars are much more important to them than development. I think Seth pointed out in the same class as Rod Moore (3 star, no OSU offer), 4 OSU DBs ranked in top 100 are no longer on the team.
in fact, maybe the OSU staff is a lot like their followers. They love star rankings, not that great at developing guys.
September 5th, 2023 at 10:29 AM ^
Yeah, I came to say that this is an objectively incorrect take from Tony.
Seems to be grasping for something to be worried about.
September 5th, 2023 at 10:30 AM ^
On the play seemingly in honor of Harbaugh, McCarthy also crossed a line and claimed he didn’t do anything wrong. Unlike Harbaugh, however, McCarthy got away with it.
I thought this was actually funny.
EDIT: why boo? I'm right!
September 5th, 2023 at 10:43 AM ^
His first sentence is incorrect. Tells you all you need to know about him.

The swagger is gone from Ohio.
