Michigan Football Chess Blitz Tournament about to Begin
There was a previous POST about it.
The following players are about to begin a chess tournament in the blitz format (5+0 time control). You can get more info, including links to streams of the moves at chess.com. I'm actually pretty interested to see how good the games are.
Cornelius Johnson (WR)
Donovan Edwards (RB)
Joey Velazquez (LB)
Roman Wilson (WR)
Zack Marshall (TE)
Tristan Bounds (OL)
Dale Chesson (WR)
Ladarius Henderson (OL)
Probably better title would have been Michigan Football BlitzChamps Tournament, since that's what chess.com is calling it.
Direct link to the YT video is now available.
Not sure if imbed will work:
Roman Wilson with the Rapid rating of 264. Given how I play chess, I'm jealous.
LoL. I was thinking the other direction. Henderson has the highest rapid rating at 991, and you could get there pretty quick in just minutes a day just doing your chess.com freebie videos/lessons and puzzles.
The no time increment means these games are going to be crazy.
I'm surprised about the no increment that the players agreed to.
Maybe they're just used to set time.
Increment could be awesome in College Football... if you're making a comeback, you add two minutes for every score...
I was doing a little self-deprecation there, ha ha. :-) I had a recent game where chess.com told me I played like a 150. Screw you chess.com!
I do expect some crazy-weird games. That frequently happens in these no increment games, especially among the 1500-and-under crowd (which I am a part of).
I do prefer 5+3 over 5+0. Should always be some increment, IMO.
Glad Hess is on the call for this one. He is a good at commentary.
Plus I believe he played LB in high school.
Love GM Hess. Donovan Edwards and Ladarius Henderson seem like the two to beat. Cornelius going to be there too. This is hilarious and awesome.
Ladarius Henderson can play. He's got to be the favorite right now..
Cornelius Johnson. Excellent check mate
Although I am happy to hear this I thought it was something about a cheese blintz and the main reason I clicked it. Please tell me cheese blintzes are a thing?
Indeed they are!
Michael Barrett is obviously the favorite
Thought Henderson was the best player after the opening round. However, Johnson really dominated their opening match in the final and displayed a great understanding of mating patterns for his rating. It was a fun watch.
Interesting how much the line up tilts to the Offensive side of the ball.
