I do know that there is intense interest in @GoldenAl. #PSU job might be offered in future but just got a firm NO, not yet.

That's PennLive journalist David Jones, who probably has a better idea than anyone else.

EDIT EDIT: Probably not?

The next guy won't live under the "he's the guy who replaced JoePa" pressure. I do think PSU will be willing now to get a JoePa guy, Golden and Munchak make the most sense.

BOB left a pretty good record, given the transfers (not that many, but some key guys like Redd), scholarships, and general crap he had to deal with.

The next guy will likely get a break from the NCAA (perhaps the bowl ban is lifted, after next season, so the team can go bowling in '15 season).

I know some PSU grads and also people in PA. They think they got screwed by the NCAA and shouldn't have accepted the big penalty they got, hence the lawsuits led by the Governor (former AG).

Forget Pittsburgh, Penn. is as consumed with PSU football as Ohio is with Bucknuts.

My inlaws live halfway between State College and Pittsburgh. The people in that whole part of the state are crazy nuts insane for the Steelers. PSU gets a subset of rooting interest but nowhere close to the passion the Steelers get. I have lived all around the country and Steelers fans are bar none -- well maybe tied with Packers fans -- the most emotionally tied to their team of anyone anywhere. Its borderline religion. PSU isnt close to that.

Coached there under JoePa and was a hot name just a few years ago.

I guess his got exposed as a dick as TB coach. Who has their guys rush in at the end of victory formation snaps?

I know people love them some Al Golden, but the guy has gone 22-15 at Miami, which has an immense recruiting base to pull from and lots of cache with kids.  I know that the Randy Shannon era wasn't great, but it's not like he's set the ACC on fire.

He's also been coaching under a cloud of suspicion and such. I don't think anybody believes he's set the world on fire, but PSU can't get the Nick Sabans and Jim Harbaughs of the world to coach them with the issues that have gone on in Happy Valley, either. They have to settle for a second-tier coach of some sort.

Hackenberg is not going back until this is sorted out. He is their only QB on scholly. O'Connor now won't enroll early and has re-opened his recruitment.
