They are just getting through the videos that Durkin left for them. I'm sure they will get to this at some point.

My wife was watching this new "Life Below Zero" on Disney + last night. This guy living in Alaska literally trapped, shot, and then skinned a wolverine to sell its fur.
I never felt so offended by Disney before, those fuckers.
Edit: To be fair, the guy was respectful toward the Wolverine and kept talking about how rare, tough, and ferocious they are.
December 6th, 2019 at 7:49 AM ^
Absolutely love Life Below Zero...would enjoy a weekend roughing it in the Tundra...but only a weekend. Eff that cold & snow as a permanent thing...those people are crazy!
December 6th, 2019 at 8:12 AM ^
I'm curious how the show works as far as the Disney + Crew/Camera Crew. They have to watch some of these people struggle food, supplies, and temperature and document it. Do they live with the people they're filming or do they have their own place that's fully set up with technology, food, heat, and everything else they could want?
December 6th, 2019 at 8:18 AM ^
Some of them live there full time and some of them go there for a set period of time. You can also look up the people ... many of them have interesting backgrounds it even talks about their net worth etc.
Alot of it is staged but still it's very interesting to watch...but then again I find "How It's Made" to be fascinating as well /nerd
The lady who runs the air base (interesting person imo) actually sued the show as the director had her do something dangerous with her bobcat or w/e that hurt her back I think.
December 6th, 2019 at 8:45 AM ^
its reality tv....which means its not reality.... Great show just the same. even if 20% of it is real, its still pretty friggin' cool.

I used to watch Alaskan Bush People and loved it. It came out that the family don't live in the bush year-round, but it's damn entertaining to watch their weird family dynamic and personalities.
December 6th, 2019 at 10:08 AM ^
What? I think Disney bought Life Below Zero. I saw that episode like three years ago.
December 6th, 2019 at 7:57 AM ^
I'm no peta member, but if an animal is rare, maybe leave it the fuck alone? He's probably from Ohio.
December 6th, 2019 at 8:04 AM ^
I guess the elusiveness of the wolverine makes it fur extremely valuable. When you live north of the Arctic Circle, you gotta make money somehow.
But I couldn't help but think this guy moved to Alaska to escape some sort of crime because he seemed very odd, especially when he was doing the skinning.
December 6th, 2019 at 8:06 AM ^
That's pretty much the only reason anyone moves to Alaska. They're either a criminal or so damn socially inept that relating to trees and bears is easier than talking to other humans.
December 6th, 2019 at 8:51 AM ^
HA! I deal with people all day long...... moving to Alaska and not doing so seems like a really good idea, more days than not.
December 6th, 2019 at 9:04 AM ^
Don't eat the wild sweet pea. I hear it can give you a bit of a stomach ache.
December 6th, 2019 at 10:10 AM ^
alaska is the most beautiful place on the planet, and if you love to hunt and fish there is no place better. i visit most years and i could live there in a heartbeat. nothing more fun than going adventuring with your buddies. i could spin many a yarn about the trips.
December 6th, 2019 at 8:19 AM ^
Don't think Wolverines are rare in the Great White North
December 6th, 2019 at 8:28 AM ^
Probably not 'rare', but they certainly are dwindling in numbers. Their range is moving further north each year. They used to be well populated in Michigan, but are now exceedingly rare in the state.
The reason the guy want to sell the fur is because Wolverine fur does not freeze. Doesn't matter how wet or covered with snow it is, despite whatever the temperature, it will not freeze solid. There are several animals like this, but Wolverine is among the most sought after when having to live in far north conditions.
December 6th, 2019 at 9:53 AM ^
wolverines are not rare in alaska.
December 6th, 2019 at 10:01 AM ^
From Wikipedia:
The world's total wolverine population is not known. The animal exhibits a low population density and requires a very large home range. The wolverine is listed by the IUCN as Least Concern because of its "wide distribution, remaining large populations, and the unlikelihood that it is in decline at a rate fast enough to trigger even Near Threatened".
Wolverines live primarily in isolated arctic, boreal, and alpine regions of northern Canada, Alaska, Siberia, and Fennoscandia; they are also native to European Russia, the Baltic countries, the Russian Far East, northeast China and Mongolia.
For every two researchers that travel to the wild for population studies, one is eaten by a wolverine.
I made that last line up... because that's what you can do on Wikipedia.

The best part of the article is toward the end where it says, "There are guards on duty next to local kindergarten and school."
Yeah, I'm sure some people standing outside with a gun would definitely protect a school from several dozen polar bears.
December 6th, 2019 at 8:53 AM ^
how wouldn't they? a firearm is about the only thing that would stop a polar bear. I suppose they could put up "No Polar Bears Allowed" signs.
December 6th, 2019 at 8:57 AM ^
My point was more emphasizing the number of Polar Bears. Firearms can work, but not if there's too many. But yes, a "No Polar Bears Allowed" sign would work without causing any violence. A win/win!
December 6th, 2019 at 9:15 AM ^
I'm no zoologist but I don't recall stories of bears of any kind forming infantry lines to storm a complex in numbers.
Seems like you scare off one you'd scare off several, but like I say, I'm no expert.
December 6th, 2019 at 9:30 AM ^
Grizzlies figured it out. Only a matter of time before they teach the polar bears.
December 6th, 2019 at 9:37 AM ^
Yes, but you failed to consider that these are Siberian/Russian Polar Bears. They're different out there.
December 6th, 2019 at 10:29 AM ^
"Firearms can work, but not if there's too many."
LOL Do you think Siberians are using muzzle-loaders?
December 6th, 2019 at 11:09 AM ^
These are Russian Polar Bears. They don't give a fuck
December 6th, 2019 at 11:14 AM ^
to shoot bears that big you need a very large caliber weapon. today's muzzle loaders shoot .50 cal+ lead bombs and as long as you are within 100 yds or so, they would actually be a good choice of weapons.
hunting grizzlies (which are the same size as polar bears) is done with a back up weapon and big caliber stuff. can be scary business around the brown bears.
December 6th, 2019 at 9:23 AM ^
Or maybe a "Polar Bear Free Zone" sign to keep the bears away?
Edit: late to the party.
