My wife was watching this new "Life Below Zero" on Disney + last night. This guy living in Alaska literally trapped, shot, and then skinned a wolverine to sell its fur.

I never felt so offended by Disney before, those fuckers.

Edit: To be fair, the guy was respectful toward the Wolverine and kept talking about how rare, tough, and ferocious they are.

I'm curious how the show works as far as the Disney + Crew/Camera Crew. They have to watch some of these people struggle food, supplies, and temperature and document it. Do they live with the people they're filming or do they have their own place that's fully set up with technology, food, heat, and everything else they could want?

Some of them live there full time and some of them go there for a set period of time.  You can also look up the people ... many of them have interesting backgrounds it even talks about their net worth etc.

Alot of it is staged but still it's very interesting to watch...but then again I find "How It's Made" to be fascinating as well /nerd

The lady who runs the air base (interesting person imo) actually sued the show as the director had her do something dangerous with her bobcat or w/e that hurt her back I think.

alaska is the most beautiful place on the planet, and if you love to hunt and fish there is no place better.  i visit most years and i could live there in a heartbeat.   nothing more fun than going adventuring with your buddies.  i could spin many a yarn about the trips.

Probably not 'rare', but they certainly are dwindling in numbers.  Their range is moving further north each year.  They used to be well populated in Michigan, but are now exceedingly rare in the state.

The reason the guy want to sell the fur is because Wolverine fur does not freeze.  Doesn't matter how wet or covered with snow it is, despite whatever the temperature, it will not freeze solid.  There are several animals like this, but Wolverine is among the most sought after when having to live in far north conditions.

From Wikipedia:

The world's total wolverine population is not known. The animal exhibits a low population density and requires a very large home range. The wolverine is listed by the IUCN as Least Concern because of its "wide distribution, remaining large populations, and the unlikelihood that it is in decline at a rate fast enough to trigger even Near Threatened".

Wolverines live primarily in isolated arctic, boreal, and alpine regions of northern Canada, Alaska, Siberia, and Fennoscandia; they are also native to European Russia, the Baltic countries, the Russian Far East, northeast China and Mongolia.

For every two researchers that travel to the wild for population studies, one is eaten by a wolverine.

I made that last line up... because that's what you can do on Wikipedia.

to shoot bears that big you need a very large caliber weapon.  today's muzzle loaders shoot .50 cal+ lead bombs and as long as you are within 100 yds or so, they would actually be a good choice of weapons.

hunting grizzlies (which are the same size as polar bears) is done with a back up weapon and big caliber stuff.  can be scary business around the brown bears.
