Yeah that's bullshit. They dont control the sidebar ads (your search engine history does) but I'm pretty damn sure they do control the in-line ads and that's where our "friends" from TruStage appear.
I'm also reasonably sure that Seth is the guy responsible for the ads and I think he's got more important things on his mind these days which is why I deleted my Meta post on this very same subject twice over the past week.

The TrueStage ad drives me away from the site. I don't want to use an ad blocker, but that ad sure is counterproductive to (laptop) traffic.
Also some of the pot ads slow my system to a crawl and I have to exit out. Glad I haven't seen those in a couple days.
