Meta: Keeping the board SFW

Submitted by uniqenam on

Would it be possible to keep some of the more racy profile pics off of user profiles? I remember this was enforced maybe a year or two ago, but it seems that there have been lots of new posters/new avatars lately with mostly-naked women on them, which isn't conducive to reading MGoBlog in a work environment. I'm not sure if the mods wish to continue the policy that they enacted awhile back, but it's sort of starting to get to the point that I don't feel comfortable reading MGoBlog at work any more.

the ridiculous use of abbreviations.  Doing so often makes many of the primary articles on this website unreadable.  I am really supposed to know this stuff??  I know the English language.

So the poster wants the board "Single White Female?"

For three reasons:

1) Many people don't seem to understand that such avatars, no matter how small, can make others in the office uncomfortable. Even if I'm not personally offended, I don't like having to stay on red alert while scrolling through mgoboard.

2) There is no real reason to have them anyway. It seems to me that, even if only a few people request that they be taken down, the reasonable reaction should be to take your avatar down and come up with something more original. What are you trying to prove by having women in bikinis, exactly?

3) From Brian's perspective, I'd want as many people viewing my blog as possible. If people are starting to shy away from viewing at work because of avatars, pictures, .gifs, etc., then that's an actual problem that has a simple solution.

I suspect that the NOT A BIG DEAL BRO THEY'RE JUST BOOBS YOU SHOULDN'T EVEN BE ON MGOBLOG AT WORK ANYWAY!!1! types on here have not worked in a setting that requires actual professionalism and respect for one's colleagues.

Thanks for posting.

How dare you insult their online identity! They are men, and should not be objectified because of the roundness of their fantastic breasts! Oh, wait....

My personal thought; any guy with a picture of a scantily clad woman as an avatar has never been with a woman that attractive. That, or he himself has bigger breasts, and uses the women as a distraction.

Is si.com safe for work?  You can see women in bikinis at the beach, on every newstand, on family friendly tv shows and commercials.  This isn't the middle east.  Get over it.  If your coworkers are that uptight about a bikini then just hide pictures on your web browser when you are at work.

Boobs in your avatar are like sexy naked girls on the mudflaps of your truck.

You can defend your DIS IS AMURICA right to have them, but please know that every respectable person around you thinks you're a jackass.

Simple question: Does your right to have boobies under your username somehow trump everyone elses right to read mgoblog without having to look at boobies? Should we have to put up with ANY amount of risk that clicking a link on mgoblog will cause problems at work?

Its not about "censorship" or whatever you personally define as "misogyny".

Its about making an inclusive community rather than an exclusive one.

If I had to choose between sharing this community with either

A) women

or

B) dudes who can't shut up for five minutes about boobs

Its a pretty easy choice.

Having boobs on your avatar adds nothing to the content or community of the blog, taking boobs off your avatar DOES add to the community and therefore the content of the blog.

I'm seriously disappointed in so many of you right now.  Call your mothers.
