Meta: iPhone app version 1.0.1
I want to submit a quick fix for some issues with the app. My primary concern is the occasional thread that will crash the app. These are caused by "NULL" comments (not sure who leaves those). I also want to make sure people always leave a subject, because it looks ugly on the web page when they don't.
Other small changes include:
- Taming down the yellow background
- changing the font from 12pt to 13pt
- fixing how images look in a table (mainly the blogpoll)
- eliminating the possibility of a double/triple post for new message board topics
I'll submit this to Apple tomorrow. I don't want to put in anything major in this version, just the bug fixes above. It should be available in the store by next weekend. (Note: I might use this thread to test a couple of things)

Hi elaydin, great app. One great thing to add would be an option to open web pages in Safari. That makes it easier to load a web page and go back to it later.

<br>Great work on this!

Another would be to switch (or have the option to switch) the order of comments from newest-first to oldest-first.

That's the first thing on my list for 1.1

Would you have an objection to someone building off the http://mgoblog.com/services/xmlrpc services the application uses?
If you're ok with it, shoot me an email at jintempe At gmail, I wanted to throw together a quick consumption only copy of the app for my phone, until an android one is available.

That's really a question for Brian, but I think he'd probably like it. I'll send you a note.

Any chance of making a mobile version of the web page for other types of phones? I know some people have brought this up before, but it would be really nice. Just having the the board/main page without all the links and images to download would be great and allow me to view the page on my phone withotu waiting 2 minutes for everythign to download.

If you have a smart phone, you can use rss and :
http://feeds.feedburner.com/mgoblog to act as a psuedo mobile version.
But yeah, and copy of the site reformatted for mobile or using a mobile style sheet would be great.

isn't working...

Try:
mgoblog.com/rss.xml
or add http:// in front of the feed burner one.

So far two things have kicked me out of the app - the UFR and this thread. I didn't have any problems with the five or six other mgoboard threads I opened.
Using an iTouch w/ OS4. (not at the moment obv)
September 16th, 2010 at 7:45 AM ^
this one should work now... someone added a post without a comment in the UFR, which caused issues.
September 16th, 2010 at 8:07 AM ^
My issue with the UFR on my iPhone is the formatting - text ran off the right of the screen and nearly every line was clipped.
On the whole, a great start to the app.
I don't have my phone in front of me at the moment, so I apologize if this is there, but if it's not, I'd love to see integration of the mgo.licio.us links/comments.

"My issue with the UFR on my iPhone is the formatting - text ran off the right of the screen and nearly every line was clipped."
Same here. Had to go to Safari to view it. Also, the tables didn't show up properly in the app.

I played with the formatting on the UFR, but couldn't get anything better. Going into landscape (turning the phone) does look a lot better.
In general, html tables are tricky. I've tried to reduce the text size, but if there are a lot of columns, they're just not going to fit. Unlike with normal text, you can't wrap a table row.
I also think Brian uses a different style sheet for UFR tables, but I'd have to look into it some more.

This app is seriously awesome....thanks!

Also be able to downvote people on the app. Is this only for the iphone? I have both the iphone and android but i cant find it on my samsung epic

iOS only... voting, after the season (maybe).

when I click the link to the UFR (defense against ND), the app crashes.
September 16th, 2010 at 10:35 AM ^
that's what 1.0.1 will fix.
Or you if you can get Might and Main to put somehting in the comment field, that would fix it too.

Looks very impressive. Question for the minority, I'm using an iTouch Gen 2 and it looks like I'll need Gen 4 to download app. Any work-around I can try. Thanks.
September 16th, 2010 at 10:44 AM ^
just need to be running iOS4
September 16th, 2010 at 9:35 AM ^
Does the new App work on the iPad as well? Thanks.
September 16th, 2010 at 10:14 AM ^
I have an iPad as well and I just go to the main site. It's fast and bee-yoo-ti-ful....just like a certain dreaded QB
<br>
September 16th, 2010 at 10:36 AM ^
It won't work until iOS 4.2... though I assume the site looks fine on an ipad
September 16th, 2010 at 10:23 AM ^
I'd like to see it maintain the login if I click out of it, but the app is still open. I believe that's possible in the latest iOS, but right now it kicks me out and makes me re-login as if relaunching the app.
UFR kicks me out every time as well.
September 16th, 2010 at 10:38 AM ^
that's interesting, it keeps me logged in. In fact, I've had people ask for a log out.
I wonder if that's because I usually use my ipod touch from home (somewhat consistent IP address), and my iphone runs iOS4 and the app never really quits.

... but most people with jobs (non-Steve variety) use Verizon.
Later the iPad app can use iAds so the site can make iMoney, iThink.
