Men's Soccer Update, Beat State, to B10 Semis
Down a man after the score was tied 1-1, Michigan scored a second goal on a free kick to beat MSU 2-1 in a Big Ten Quarterfinal.
The win is significant because Michigan has historically struggled against MSU (Michigan's first year as a program was in 2000, MSU has had a team since 1956) and it solidifies a spot in the NCAA tournament.
Michigan plays next tomorrow at 1:00pm ET and the game will be televised on the Big Ten Network. They'll play either OSU or Wisconsin.
[FA EDIT: Title adjusted because M sports are ALWAY on topic.]

I root for all Michigan sports so it is good to see them win, especially against that other michigan school. GO BLUE!!

First Miss America and now Soony Saad. Um and why did it take us until 2000 to get a varsity team. What's up with that?

informative and witty...well done!

Yeah Title IX puts Men's Soccer in a tough spot because it limits teams to 9.9 scholarships per year.

LOL oops on the OP. I'm really excited for the team, a lot of them are friends that were freshmen my senior year. Following the game through the team's liveblog sucked pretty hard. It'll be nice to watch it on TV.

So, we're playing Wisconsin (#7 seed, worst team in the conference) in the semis. They upset Ohio State (#2 seed) 5-4 in a penalty shootout after holding the Buckeyes scoreless for 110 minutes. Total shots were 30-5 (10-1 on targer) in favor of Ohio State.

That is damn impressive.

...1-0 loss to OSU earlier this year. Michigan dominated possession and chances and had a PK saved. Not especially surprised that OSU was upset. Sure puts Michigan in a great spot to potentially advance to the tourney finals, though.
