I clicked and it didn't require me to pay. BTW, I agree with you. FREEP and DETNEWS is doing the same thing. "For Subscriber" articles. No thanks.

As with the first commenter, I won't pay for MLive content. But I didn't have to! The page opened right up - and it was a really good article. I highly recommend it because Carter deserves the attention he'll get from it.
I hope he gets that TD in the Big House that he's looking for...

I hit the home button after the PleasePay popup and then scrolled to the article. Easy peazy.
What struck me is the lack of “I am owed something more” that is so prevalent in college sports. I’m fine with NIL, always was, but an education and graduating debt free is more that adequate for the players IMO.
For those who would argue “people are getting rich off of the players” I would suggest the institution of college football is what makes it great. And how many athletic departments have a huge surplus? It all gets spent on salaries and infrastructure.
Players come and go. Coaches come and go.
Nice that some players will pick up EXTRA spending money via NIL. And the big name players have the NFL waiting with open arms/wallets. Everybody wins.
