Good for him - a good Purdue team helps the B1G. Purdue and Painter renegotiated his contract - big surprise.

Oh, he got a new deal out of his flirtation with another school? That's quite a surprise.
Edit: And I clearly didn't read your full post before replying...

*** No value judgment is implied here. ***
Speaking as a middle-aged Midwesterner, is there an NCAA basketball coach that looks more Midwestern than Painter?
* Pleasant, earnest look? Check.
* Hair done with at least a little bit of gel (so Sparty it hurts)? Check.
* Twenty or so pounds above playing weight (still in the socially acceptable range)? Check.
* Dressed well but rarely stylishly? Check.
Why hasn't Brady Hoke hired this guy?

It was all a big money grab. Painter wanted more; he saw the opportunity to leverge what he and his team did this year and he took it.
It happens everyday in the business workforce.
Well played, Painter.

Hm.
I'm going to go flirt with another university to see if I can get my tuition lowered.
I hope their program suffers the same fate as MSU this year, post-Izzo;s Cav's flirtations. I hope Painter has lost all credibility with his players. I never understood why he would interview with Mizzou. Mizzou??? Really??? I don't get it. Maybe they threw a big number out there to grab his attention. Otherwise, this doesn't make much sense.
Good luck recruiting. How many kids are going to want to play for a coach that has a for sale sign around his neck?
I had the same feeling. It seems like the whole thing wrapped up awfully quickly. The AD must really be desperate to maintain some semblance of credibility, especially after Purdue football went to shit/regressed to the mean last year.
