Marching Band NIL at Wisconsin

Kudos to this young Badger Mellowphone player for breaking ground in the marching band NIL world (bonus points for partnering with Kwik Trip).  Hopefully we might see some MMB students following soon

All of this continues to overlook, in an increasingly nutty way, that the people making the money--universities--are giving up nothing. Players are not getting paid, least of all by those exploiting them. NIL is an opportunity to freelance, really, nothing more.

Thank god that Jim gets this even if the average fan doesn't. Schools must privately laugh their asses off. . . all the way to the bank.

What's insane is that it was NEVER prohibited for someone in the marching bands to have a deal like this but it was for ALL athletes. Good for this kid taking the initiative.

Also - I'd never heard of a mellophone before so I'm glad to have learned something new this morning.

Wow! I wish I had thought of marketing myself many decades ago!

My most exciting moment was when a group of kids asked for my autograph after a concert. So I took some sheets of music out of my flip folder and gave them to them. Later I realized what I did probably violated copyright laws, but I was having a thing with the student secretary of the band at the time, so she replaced them for me and there was no subsequent sheet-music-gate.

Hopefully the statute of limitations has been exceeded by now...
