M Swim concludes 11-0 season with thrashing of MSU

Business as usual.

#3 Men took it to MSU for the second time this year, winning 173-93.

The score was that close because Mike Bottom essentially treated it as a practice. He tinkered with different relay linups and different swimmers in different events. That's how terrible the opposition was.

It was senior day today. And the lineups for the relays consisted of nothing but seniors for Michigan as a tribute to them--and they did not disappoint, winning all three relays.

Nine Wolverines took individual event wins today.

Michigan is now 87-5 against MSU all-time. That's right. Michigan has won 87 of the 92 meetings. Pure dominance by Michigan's most dominant program historically.

This is Michigan's 5th CONSECUTIVE perfect season. A 52-meet winning streak that dates back 5 years ago.

The Wolverine Men send the seniors off with a 38-0 career record, 24-0 against B1G teams.

They'll take two weeks off from competition and train for the upcoming B1G Championships in West Lafayette where Mike Bottom seeks his 6th straight B1G Championship.

The #6 ranked Women also hosted MSU on senior day, and won easily, 180-81. They finish with an 8-1 record and a 6-0 record against B1G competition.

The Women will train for one week and then host the B1G Championships at Canham Natatorium. The Wolverines look to be the favorites in that one, going for their first B1G Championship in 12 years.

LOL Hockey is a "peripheral sport" here? Really?

Back when the MBB program was scuffling and falling all over itself, Hockey became the #2 sport here with quite a few people. I saw it with my own eyes. Just look at the attendance numbers in terms of % full.

I rememer Red doing interviews where he made a point in telling fans to go to the Basketball game that week. This wasn't that long ago.

No one is suggesting hockey is bigger than football. But the poster above suggested hockey doesn't matter (along with other sports) and that just isn't true. One of the things that makes Michigan great is how many sports we're good at, not just football. Many of us, myself included, follow those other sports quite closely. But you certainly don't have to.

Fans should be proud of Michigan's traditionally high finish in he Director's Cup. Invariably much higher than our top football and basketball competition. It's a sign of across the board committment to excellence and systemic health. It's way harder and more impressive to do than snag a once in a lifetime basketball coach who hangs around for two decades and simply ride his coat tails. More than a few of the programs outside of the big 2 at OSU and MSU are embarrassingly bad. They actually should be ashamed. But they aren't. Which is another reason being a Michigan fan is special.

A lot of investments have been made in these sports and it certainly paid off. Football check, basketball? Well, let's see what Warde does in the near future. I have a feeling many are getting restless. No, I am not advocating fire JB either. I am sure there are smarter folks in the Athletic Department with viable solutions.

Not crying any sympathy tears but as an outsider it is amazing how Rutgers bad these teams are. MSU's swim team would probably lose a dual meet to an Ann Arbor area HS all-star team and many of their kids have not improved their times.
