Lions finally trade Slay.

I think the Eagles got the better end of that deal.
A second with a fifth would have felt much better.
Now do the Lions try to trade down and still acquire Okuda?

Lions/Slay were pretty open about wanting to move on from each other. They showed their hand, compromising any leverage the team hoped to have. Hard to defend Quinn/Patricia as more key players are demanding out.
With Brady leaving NE, we'll see if "The Patriot Way" truly is worth the hype.

Quinn and Patricia don’t seem to understand that “The Patriot Way” doesn’t work when you ship off your disgruntled players and replace them with ones who are a lot worse.
March 19th, 2020 at 12:55 PM ^
That's called "The Lion Way", and it's been very effective over the years - assuming the goal was to not be successful at winning football games.
The "Patriot Way" is not giving money to all of the players the Patriots don't want. That's actually the opposite of the "Patriot Way". That's the strategy of people that are in a position they should've never been in in the first place. Oh how I miss Caldwell and Mayhew. I can't believe I said that.
Right there with you in Caldwell and Mayhew. What a shit show.
While I miss Caldwell and Teryl Austin, I don't miss Joe Lombardi ending Calvin Johnsons career by trying to turn him into Wes Welker, nor do I miss passing on Aaron Donald for Eric fucking Ebron.

"The Patriot Way" only works when you have Tom Brady and Bill Billacek.
The Lions pathetic attempt to emulate them will get them nowhere.
Patricia and Quinn will be gone by the end of the year.
Find your own identity Detroit.

Lions are competing with Miami to see who can sign the most ex - Pats this off season.
March 19th, 2020 at 12:59 PM ^
Schwartz went too far, but at least the team had its own personality.
March 19th, 2020 at 12:46 PM ^
I wouldn't be surprised if they used the 3rd from Philly to trade up and grab Okudah. They're the Lions
March 19th, 2020 at 12:49 PM ^
Does it matter? Once again the Lions have traded away one of their most talented players and gotten jack shit in return.
Quinn has no idea what the hell he’s doing.
March 19th, 2020 at 12:56 PM ^
Have you seen the tweets and comments from Slay? He made it impossible for the Lions to do anything but trade him. The alternative was to have a loud-mouthed cancer in the locker room, skipping training camp and forcing other players to take sides. He was a one-man version of the Cleveland Cavaliers and their treatment of John Beilein.
Yeah it seems pretty obvious that they're getting rid of the guys that never bought in and bringing in a bunch of veterans that they know will.
March 19th, 2020 at 12:38 PM ^
Awesome didn’t even have to give up a second!!
March 19th, 2020 at 12:49 PM ^
It's weird. I know that Slay is regarded as a really good corner but every time I turned on a Lions game he would be getting torched.
March 19th, 2020 at 12:54 PM ^
Slay is still elite. The lack of a pass rush made it seem like he had slipped this past year, and he still made the Pro Bowl and was in the league leaders in PBU. He'll still be an excellent player in Philly.
As for Quinn, what a dolt. The Raiders were offering a solid OG plus a pick, but no, Quinn thinks he knows better. Now watch, he'll trade down from 3 thinking he can still get Okudah, but instead somebody else will move up to take him, and we'll be stuck with Derrick Brown or Tristan Wirfs.
SOL.
March 19th, 2020 at 12:56 PM ^
Who was the OG that the Raiders were offering?
Derrick Brown would be an absolute disaster.
I think the offer was Gabe Jackson and a 3rd.
Gabe would have been a pretty significant cap hit. Prob better off with a 5th.
This is the Lions.
They're going to get Tua and he'll medical out in a year.

Even the best corners are going to get burned when the QB has all day to stand in the pocket and wait for his receivers to come free.
Keenan Allen made him his bitch. Slay’s past his prime.
Until Slay made the game-clinching interception.
I dont know, I thought the only one that really abused him was Kennan Allen and he still made a pick at the end of that game to secure a win.
Did Detroit fans tend to overrate him? Probably but when QBs have time to remortgage their homes and still get through their progressions like Prescott and Winston did it is tough to keep em covered.
March 19th, 2020 at 12:52 PM ^
Lions will stay at 3rd and get Okudah.
March 19th, 2020 at 12:54 PM ^
Looking at Patricia, thought the biggest decision he'd have in a trade with Philly wouldn't be the draft picks, but which place they'd include a couple cheese steaks. Pat's or Geno's?
March 19th, 2020 at 12:55 PM ^
Geno's. All day, every day.
March 19th, 2020 at 12:57 PM ^
I'm so irritated with the Lions. Our offense was decent, the defense was a mess. But they take a 30 something QB with back issues and decide 'Hey, now's the time to save money on the O line'. I haven't watched them regularly for awhile, but with my son when he wants. But I don't have alot of faith with Quinn and Patricia.
It just feels like Belicheck is using us as his dumping ground for guys he's done with.
Slay was a strong point. Why not build around him???? It was stupid to lose Glasgow. Grump.
A talented corner, but I can see Detroit realizing maybe he was trending down a small bit and wanting to get some picks for him. I think he'll be successful in Philly, but Detroit isn't all that close to competing and might as well try the draft instead of holding onto a guy who won't be as good in a couple of years when they may actually have a shot at being competitive.
You make a team better by making a couple areas on your squad good. Why not keep Slay and draft Okudah to give them 2 very good Corners
ig im a GM i do the 49ers thing. Draft my DL in the 1st round for 5-6 drafts in a row .Then have an outstanding DL ,the rest of the team you only need avg talent, teams like the Lions have like one good player at a couple spots, but teams can game plan vs these guys. You cant game plan vs a team with a DL that goes 7-8 deep .
49ers will be 10-6 or better, based on its DL alone for the next few years

No real improvement with major holes at guard, Pass rush, and the secondary
This team right now is worse than it was at the end of 2019 and in 11 seasons Matt Stafford has not won a single playoff game or division title. They just need to get rid of that 27 million a year he has and start fresh with a true rebuild and fresh front office
SOL = Same Ole Lions
No FREEP links without posting the entire article OP. Thank you.
They might go 0-16 again if there's an NFL season
If you are going to draft Okudah it better not be at number 3.
