Hey, what goes around comes around regarding starting rumors about Coaches leaving to ruin recruiting. I think the Raiders are in play...

EDIT - Altered headline to something far less clickbait-ish. Jesus, OP. "Ryan Day To NFL"? Reserve that one for the actual time, if that ever comes. - LSA

I think you want to write "Ryan Day to NFL" when it is actually confirmed that he's on the move, not when it's still speculation. In the news world, at least the one that I came up in, a headline like yours is seen as irresponsible.

Are you kidding?  If he becomes the first G5 coach to get his team to the playoffs, nothing that happens in the playoffs will cost him luster.  I don't have to like the guy, but I have to acknowledge the incredible job he's done at Cinci.  I do not want him back at OSU.

I mean.. yeah kinda? I mostly just wanted to make a joke about Michigan beating Cinci in the playoffs but there have been other G5 teams do what cinci has done before and if the committee could reasonably leave them out of the playoffs, they would. It's been a weird year with top teams losing early, teams like Clemson falling further than anyone suspected. Kudos to Fickell and cinci but does anyone ACTUALLY think they are one of the 4 best teams in college football?

I actually wouldn’t fear any coaches. Harbaugh just beat OSU, is going to the B10 championship game and is one of the favorites to win a NC this year, and we bring back a large potion of our contributors next year. He’ll probably be up for national coach of the year honors. Harbaugh has shown he has that fire and will do whatever it takes to consistently win. The rest of the B10 should be very scared of Michigan at this point

While I agree that Fickell at OSU would probably be good but not necessarily great, Cincinnati's defense is pretty damn good and the strength of their team. They have good speed and are physical. Strength of schedule arguments aside, they rank 3rd in scoring defense and 8th in total defense.

This kind of hire makes no sense to me, though they do occur.

I think Day is a good coach but OSU's run of success is all about recruiting and he is recruiting lights out.

To me, an NFL hire from college makes more sense when they go after someone winning with lesser talent at a non-traditional power. Like I would think a Tom Allen or a Jeff Brohm is actually a better take for an NFL team.

Perhaps OSU will continue it's auto-playoff/6 lane highway or perhaps Day is no Meyer and Harbaugh will be able to chip away at that (which I think is very possible).

Day is a good coach but Meyer was a great coach (just threw up in my mouth). Now that UM is no longer running a gimmick defense I think there's a real chance that UM becomes much more competitive over the next several years.

Meyer will be out of the league in 3yrs. He’s not really a great coach. His record does say otherwise but IMO this is a case of timing more than skill. His Utah years followed the sanctions driven demise of USC, he walked in to the house that Spurrier & Zook built at Florida, then stepped in to a running machine at OSU. His NFL career will mirror Saban IMO. The NFL doesn’t let one side get a talent advantage. You actually have to figure shit out and win with near equals. Harbaugh did that. Saban, Chip Kelly, now Meyer are all front runners. Never really had to build it from scratch and figure it out. Guys like Tom Allen are the guys who could beat yours with his, then turn around and beat his with yours. Harbaugh is closer to that type of coach than Meyer.

If he DOES go to Chicago it will be super hard to cheer for 2 Buckeyes…ahhh no it won’t. Love Fields, will learn to love “Ryan “Just For Men” Day.

I kind of want Day to stick around for awhile. He has limited head coaching experience and zero experience building a program. The guy was handed one of the top three programs in the country during an era where the top few teams have a huge recruiting advantage.

Let’s see how he does when they have some adversity and have to rebuild some elements of their team and staff. It also makes it more likely that Fickell (who is building the kind of experience you want in a top coach) jumps to a top program and is unavailable to replace Day if things go to shit.

This.   I don’t know how good Fickell actually is, but he seems pretty good and he is a ready-made for OSU at this point in his career.  I want day to stick around long enough for Fickell to go somewhere else.  1) I think Day regresses to the mean and 2) I want OSU to hire their Rich Rod when Day does leave.

He joined one of the premier country clubs in Columbus on October 8, he has young kids, and Columbus is a great place to raise kids. We should be so lucky!
