LB James Vaughters possibly starting to look around

Submitted by Dreisbach1817 on

This is not a CC post, but involves Harbaugh's most prized recruit this year.

James Vaughters is a high four-star Middle Linebacker who committed to Stanford but is now on record as saying that he is starting to look around following all the Harbaugh rumors.  He is from Georgia so no real ties to the West Coast aside from the Head Coach most likely.

Georgia Tech, the Florida schools, and tOSU are among the schools he listed.

Whether he would follow Harbaugh to any potential new destination possibly situated in Ann Arbor is a topic for another day.

For now, it's just something to keep on the radar.

Come on Ted, it's not that rare for a post to say something like "big time recruit at X position looks to be decommitting, can we put the snake oil on him in the last month?" even if there is no coaching change involved.  The fact that it's at Stanford only makes it that much more interesting, but this is hardly a CC thread.

Don't mean to change the topic of your post, but a candidate to possibly follow Harbaugh here if he indeed ends up coaching this team is Anthony Sarao, as he wanted a UM offer to begin with. Another one to keep an eye on is Remound Wright if Harbaugh ends up here. Historically though, for some reason not a lot of guys end up following a coach during a coaching change. They either stay where they are, or go elsewhere.

Yeah, it kind of depends on the situation.  Some recruits commit to a school, and the coach is secondary.  This would include guys like Desmond Morgan or Kellen Jones (and I'm sure others as well).  Then there are guys who don't have any real connection to the school, but want the opportunity to play for this particular coach or in this particular system.  It sounds like Dee Hart might be this kind of guy.  Neither of them are bad, just different.

Now, something tells me that a big time LB from Georgia doesn't have a major connection to Stanford (the fact that he's now looking elsewhere is a big part).  He most likely picked Stanford because he liked what JH brrough to the table.  Is it possible that if JH came to Michigan, Vaughterts would still like what JH is as a coach and would like the opportunity to play for him at a school closer to home, with much more football tradition and with a higher ceiling in terms of team success?  Yes, I think that's certainly possible.

There are really two types of recruits, as you said. Guys who are closer to home and have more ties to the university itself are more likely to stick with a school, regardless of coach. By my estimate, in this class, that would include MI CB Delonte Hollowell, MI DE Brennen Beyer, OH CB Greg Brown, OH DE Chris Rock, MI SR/RB Justice Hayes, and MI T Jake Fisher. There are a few other guys committed in this class that really love the university, and by my estimate, would stick around as well. That would include MD CB Blake Countess, K Matt Goudis, TX LB Kellen Jones, and maybe OH OL Jack Miller, although I think it was really the coaching staff that brought him here. That, of course, leaves FL CB Dallas Crawford, FL RB Dee Hart, and FL T Tony Posada. I think we'd be lucky to keep 2/3 were the coaching staff to change.

Interesting to note that Georgia Tech had 10 players who left the program during the year.

<br>"3. Despite landing its 17th commitment recently — linebacker Tyler Marcordes of Normal, Ill. — it appears Georgia Tech’s has plenty of room for some of these major recruits. A total of 10 players have left the program for reasons other than graduation or exhaustion of eligibility in 2010, according to JacketsOnline.com. The good news is that leaves them with just 62 returning letterman for next season. That means they could sign as many as 23 players in the current class."
