Late night Michigan Football trivia factoid
Jon Runyan's -8 yard rush last game is the first time an OL has touch the ball since the 2012 UMass where Taylor Lewan recovered a Denard fumble in the endzone, thus scoring a 0yd touchdown rush.
That and Lewan's 11 yard rush on a recovered fumble at Purdue in 2010 are the only times a lineman has touched the ball for Michigan in the 2010s.

And upon further review, it shouldn't have counted, as Shea's knee was down before the pitch. (And Bell caught that ball. Stupid replay officials.)

It's literally their job to review the replay and make the correct calls. How do they miss those 2? What were there reasons/excuses?

At that point the refs felt so bad for Michigan and didn’t want to stop the beating for a meaningless reply in a game that didn’t matter anyway because both teams are in a different division so it didn’t matter that Wisconsin kicked UM’s ass because UM can still get in to the Big Ten championship game in Indianapolis and play Wisconsin again and a can of whoop-ass is reserved for Rutgers anyway when Harbaugh releases speed in space.

They felt bad for us so they screwed us over on the Bell call (when the score was 7-0)? What?

Come on, man. Figure it out. He's obviously talking about the other play and he's right. The Runyan lateral, carry, fumble was after the game was out of hand. If memory serves, it would have brought up 3rd and 10 instead of 3rd and 15 if reviewed, which really wouldn't have mattered because Michigan couldn't do anything anyway. I think it was near the end of the half and I was muttering the same thing under my breath... "Dont review it. Doesn't matter. Just go."

So what explains the Bell call?
September 26th, 2019 at 5:03 PM ^
The guy you replied to didn't say anything about the Bell call. Some other guy did up above. Pay attention. This entire thread is about the Runyan play. This isn't that hard.

Yes. Replay officials. That is why we lose games. Well that and kickoff time, the other team plays too hard, injuries.......I mean seriously how are we supposed to win .....everything is stacked against us.

While it sure seemed like there is no way Michigan wins that game in the end, I would've liked to see how it turned out had that play not gotten overturned (along with Mason not fumbling inside the 5 yard line, of course). Momentum can do crazy stuff, especially in an away game in that kind of environment. Do I think it would've helped stop Wisconsin's running attack? No, but the ability to keep putting up points to try to hang with then would've been a possibility. Replay and the fumble were critical plays that set the tone early.

It was certainly evident that once Wisconsin went up 14-0, the team gave up. It’s likely we still lose (putting it mildly), but interesting to see how the game turns out if we score on that first drive and actually play until the game is over. At least the loss looks better instead of looking dysfunctional.

I agree, but keep in mind you'd also be asking Wisconsin to keep playing until the game is over. They also lost interest and got tired of kicking our ass around mid-3rd quarter.

Wonder if Runyan can throw from the unbalanced tackle around formation?

Does Long Snapper count? Jareth Glanda in the Sugar Bowl after a deflection on the fake field goal.
September 26th, 2019 at 1:19 AM ^
I swear Hoke mortgaged the next 50 years of luck for Michigan for that damn Sugar Bowl win.
September 26th, 2019 at 11:14 AM ^
That was a reception, not a rush.
Glanda caught a deflected pass.

But that wasn't what WD said. He said those two instances were the only time UM linemen "touched the ball". He probably meant to say what you are alluding to, but given his statement there are several instances where linemen recovered fumbles or were hit with errant passes.

Till I die, I will be disappointed I never saw Denard Robinson in 11 and 12 under Rich Rodriguez. Y’all can say our defense wasn’t going to improve, or the offense would fail in big games, but damnit I wanted to see Denard have that chance he deserved.
September 26th, 2019 at 8:49 AM ^
That's how I feel about Gardner. Gardner in the RichRod or Urban offense could've been sub crazy.
September 26th, 2019 at 10:08 AM ^
Gardner was 'crooted by Rich Rod to be Denard's heir. Fucking Hoke...
Criminal, man. Criminal.
September 26th, 2019 at 10:07 AM ^
It was a thing of beauty...
Alas, you probably have seen bits and pieces of him running Rich Rod's stuff under Hoke. The 11-2 Sugar Bowl year was essentially all RR's offense. Hoke worked in more and more 'pro set' stuff over the next couple of years. Which is why it got worse and worse. Seeing Denard in a pro style, read through progressions like Tom Brady, offense was painful.
September 26th, 2019 at 12:29 PM ^
We saw Hoke's offense in the Iowa game Year 1. That should've been enough for him to keep the spread.
September 26th, 2019 at 11:18 AM ^
Yeah, if Brandon was willing to give RRod $1M to go get a defensive coordinator (Like he did for Hoke to go get Mattison) I think our D would have improved.

Factoid? More like hemorrhoid... The game of... What was the more impressive fuck-up?
September 26th, 2019 at 8:30 AM ^
I remember when Lloyd tried a throwback-lateral screen to Long in their last game. Sadly, Henne fired it 3 feet over his head.

Double whoops.

We haven't had an OL fall on a fumble in 7 years?!
