Late aft/evening bball thread
Harvard vs Yale is a game of interest I guess. Are we still bubble watching, pulling for certain teams over another? Or do we not care anymore.
Edit: Princeton
it seems that in recent years the committee hasn't been particularly kind to picking B1G teams for the tourney. When the "experts" hover between 6 or 7 teams in, the committee seems to tend to the low number. I'm not calling conspiracy at all. I'm just thinking particularly about two years ago with PSU and it seems like the same happened last year but I don't remember.
In that case I think Illinois fans have to be extremely concerned and this does disrupt the seeding for B1G teams including UM, MSU and PSU.
repeat after me: The Committee does not care or take into account how many teams get in from any given conference. They look only at individual resumes.
If they did, Villanova and Marquette would be NIT locks right now.
6-8 against the RPI top-50, and 9-8 against the top-100. Their recent slide aside, they still are a tournament team, but I wouldn't bet on them hanging around past their first game.
Marquette, OTOH, is a toss-up. They're 5-12 against the top-50 RPI, and only 7-13 against the top-100. They have three key wins: ND, UCONN (who were overrated), and Syracuse, and another good one against WVU in the BET.
How is a Big East tournament finalist overrated?
UCONN was overrated when Marquette beat them (ranked 14th). They were in the middle of a slide and fell all the way to the first day of the BET.
That win for the Golden Eagles now looks really good with UCONN in the BET Final, much in the same way that Illinois' win over UNC looks really good now, even though the Heels were a bit up and down in the early going of this season (lost to Minny and Vandy before the Illinois game).
You understand that I'm not actually saying they're out right? Rather I'm building on AAB's point of conferences not having a specific number of bids. If that was the case, no chance that 1/4 of the at-large bids go to the same conference.
The Big East will deservingly have 11 teams in the tournament. Great season as a whole.
Yes, I know what you're saying. I guess my post was kind of a pointless exercise.

Game of the year for us. If we lost that one, we'd be in real trouble.
Delvon Roe is a piece of shit.
Roe is a thug. That is all.
Thuggery from a MSU basketball team? Call the papers! Draymond Green is pretty dirty himself.
It seems like Izzo has at least one big goon at all times. The goon has no real skill and just fouls the crap out of people, daring the officials to call them all. Previous goons include Antonio Smith, Al Anagonye and Delco Rowley. Roe is their rightful heir, and Nix may pick up the torch after he's gone.
I think Nix actually has some skill, unlike the dudes you previously mentioned (including Roe). However, he is too fat and lazy to probably ever be much of a factor for MSU outside of the occasional flash.
WOW. Princeton with the buzzer beater
Wow Princeton.
I really do feel bad for him, I have always thought he is a good guy.
He is a great guy, what a way to lose. That sucks.
Damn I was really hoping the Crimson would pull it off. That drops our RPI by how much.
Harvard was quite high in the RPI (top-35 I think), so they will remain a top-50 win for us.
According to warrennolan.com, we are 49th in the RPI after our game. We will probably drop out of the top-50 when it's all said and done, but it doesn't matter, because we are dancing, no if's and's or but's.
Our RPI dropped to 51.
He must have updated his rankings just after I posted that reply. Also, I can't get his site to load for me now.
Poor Amaker. The guy just can't get in the tournament.
as far as the BTT, absolutely everything went wrong for us from the minute the Illinois game ended. The only possible scenario that could have resulted in any question whatsover as to our tourney chances actually took place. Call me pessimistic, but F man.
One time Sparty, I ask you to NOT SUCK one time and that is what you do. Come on!
There's no real way to sugarcoat this so I'll just say it.
Calm the F down.
We are in the tournament. We will not be in a play-in game. We might be an 11 seed, we're more likely a 10 seed. Plain and simple.
I recognize that as a fanbase, the past several years have caused us extreme levels of paranoia regarding something actually going our way, but you do not need to be teetering over a cliff. This team will be playing Thursday or Friday, and it won't be at Crisler.
holy shit what a finish in the p10 tourney
You know it's March when Gus Johnson is calling epic buzzer beaters. Gus doesn't call blow outs.
Gus Johnson should call every game important from now til the end of time
Gus gonna Gus. Ridiculously awesome finish in the Pac-10 Tourney. Here's the clip with all the Gus glory. I can't stop watching it.
Edit: I mentioned this in the UM-OSU thread today but how much do you think it'd cost to get a dedicated Gus Johnson audio channel on every possible game? Count me in for a donation. Either that or get some Michigan scientists to clone him ASAP.

Good lord, Calhoun needs to wipe that nasty ass white shit from the corner of his mouth. That's two nights in a row i've had to look at it, I can't take much more of that. Someone give the man a towel, or your sleeve, your hand, anything. Just wipe your mouth Jimmy.

Send him an email. Michigan fans are #1 at emailing sports commentators.

I would but Calhoun is a coach and not a commentator.
Edit: I agree Michigan fans are Leaders and Best at flooding the inbox of people who do us wrong.
