Lacrosse vs Ohio: Sunday 2pm
It's supposed to a beautiful day in A2 tomorrow. Good chance to go see men's lacrosse take on the Bucks in Michigan Stadium at 2. Still a tall order for this team to win this game for a couple more years probably (OSU is #11 and coming off a win over Johns Hopkins), but it's a rivalry game so who knows. OSU had over 2000 at their home game against the Bluejays last week. It would be great to get that kind of crowd for our team this week. That kind of support could help the cause.
The game is on ESPNu if you aren't from the area or can't make it. I fall in the former category, but would love to see a lot of fans there on the broadcast.

if 2000 is considered high attendance, why do they play games in the big house?

Cuz we don't have a Little House... and bc the lax stadium has not yet been built

Where else are they supposed to play? Elbel Field is the only other University-owned turf field.
A Lacrosse-only stadium is on the way. STILL waiting on the renderings, but it was approved by the Regents in the fall. Good thing, too, because it is not the best going to a 1% full Big House for a game. It's essentially a neutral site game.
And for Women's games, it's really really bad.
Would rather them both play their games at Oosterbaan. Place gets loud and has an intimiate atmosphere.
Why not the soccer field? It's hard for me to imagine that lacrosse require require turf. But if for whatever reason it does, then use the field hockey field.
yep, i woulda suggested the soccer field. seems like a huge waste to open the big house for that little amount of people. is lacrosse a varsity sport now? it wasn't when i was there til 2010...
Lacrosse teams prefer to play on turf. This is why they play at The Big House and Oosterbaan exclusively.
Lacrosse was added in 2011-12.

Each sport gets its own field with its own special lines. That's how it works at Michigan with all our bazillions of dollars and athletics crazy mind set.
Quote from lacrosse team manager regarding why UM is building a separate field for each sport, "It's what Michigan does."
Are lacrosse crowds typically rowdy?

just broke ground. Word from UM coaches is that it will be two more seasons before games will be played there.

The players love playing in the Big House. Visiting teams perhaps even more. They get to use the football locker rooms, and let's face it - it is freaking cool. They'll have a story for the rest of their lives about playing at The. Big. House.

Beat Ohio!!
Bring back Erich Honecker.
Upvote for you! TBH, I had no idea who my prior avatar was till now, he just looked like a stern EG Judge.

Someone has loving parents.
Will be good to see the team in some nice weather, and hopefully make this an interesting game. Osu is really inconsistent. We have been playing better lately, and getting king back helps.
Thanks for the reminder! I think I am going to try to make it with my kids.
Game is on Sunday.
Not reading well.
I went to a LAX game last year at the Big House. Rowdy is not the word I would use to describe it although there were a few hockey fans there trying. The Big House run is tomorrow morning. If the Athletic Department were smart they would try to entice some of the runners to stay. It should be a nice day for the game.
Runners do get in for free

I will be watching and actively cheering on Michigan tomorrow. I have a strong aversion to the Buckeyes from back in the GWLL days. Generally obnoxious people. For a long time they were our "rival" in the Midwest... but now we're out of conference and it's hard to really consider someone a "rival" anymore when you absolutely own them on the field.
The only thing I give them credit for is that in my first gig covering a game for Inside Lacrosse at the Horseshoe they were quite nice to the media and had good food in the press box. So there's that, I guess.

according to lacrosse team manager, based on ticket sales. If counted the way they do for football (i.e. everyone in the stadium, not just ticket sales) the number would have been closer to 2,100. (not Yippee or anything, just saying).
That many people in a lacrosse only stadium sized to hold maybe twice that (?) would be much more intense and loud (like it is now in Oosterbaan).
Given how beautiful the weather was, and how few students were there, the only thing that is going to get them to trek "all the way" out to the new stadium will be to have a good product on the field.
