Kovacs' Bandwagon
I'm jumping on this kid's bandwagon. I'm not sure about his pass coverage yet, but he's generally been quite good in run support. I'm especially impressed by his tackling, as he consistently makes strong form tackles. He wraps up and "brings his feet." Cliche? Perhaps. But it's more than can be said about the other DBs.
To the extent that he's not the most physically gifted athlete, I think he makes up for by being fundamentally sound. I think he's more fun to watch than, say, a safety with elite speed but zero tackling ability.
Definitely a strong pick-up!

he isnt great but played a very good game today. hopefully something he can built off of.

he doesnt do so well in coverage, but he does a really good job of coming up on the run and he tackles well

He's a very solid tackler. He made some sure tackles on the MSU backs today, especially that last 3rd and 3 in the 4th quarter. I think he's quick enough to cover TE's so a move to the Deathbacker might be a good move next year.

Death Roh is the Deathbacker. Stevie Brown is just a regular SLB.

Yeah Stevie is the regular SLB and I also think Kovacs would look good at this position. I don't know how many "walk ons" truly contribute in Div I football but I have been impressed with how this kid has played.

my bad. come to think of it, maybe Roh should move to safety. Anyone see him play that pass perfectly and chop down on the TE's arms when he was about to catch the ball. He had tighter coverage than I've seen from the corner opposite DWarren so far.

Judging from that pass breakup in the endzone he is pretty good at playing the pass and coverage as well. I think he had a good game today. Am very excited to see his career in the Maize and Blue

if they did that then maybe they would have to keep Marvin Robinson at saftey next year.

That kid has done everything he can possibly do given his limited physical capablities. I have no problem with him being on the field given the alternatives at safety.

a walk-on tackles better than most of the rest of the defense.
He's a gamer kid, but a pretty big liability in coverage. Just not fast enough for this level.

if he had speed, he'd be a 4 star guy for sure. What he does have though is pretty impressive; I remember him coming in for the ND game and hoping he was just in there to distribute water. He's doing pretty dang good.

We can't blame him for the fact that Mike Williams isn't 100% and no scholarship player has stepped up.
I agree though that it's probably not a good sign as far as our depth is concerned.

Kovacs is too slow to play safety. He got torched by a tight end. He really could be a linebacker, although he couldn't handle Steve Brown's pass responsibilities. I don't think the kid really has a position...
Did anybody see that Woolfolk banged up his shoulder early and still played the rest of the game? With Kovacs already in there, Michigan couldn't afford to replace a guy who only had one arm. The depth at safety is BAD.

He's a solid player, but very slow. Still having a walk-on safety lead the team in tackles is a bad sign.

If we are all in concurrence that the D is generally devoid of talent, the ability to make a play is something that is incredibly valuable to a team that we all agree will continue to be scored upon. So yes, while he is slow, he has shown the ability to make a play or two at crucial moments. For that reason alone, I'm definitely glad Kovacs is out there playing his butt off. Ezeh and Mouton could take a lesson or two from him.

I'll join you on the bandwagon. He had a solid game. I'd love to see it carry over to this week's Iowa game.
