Karma
(my computer deleted this as I was about to post, this is 2nd effort)
Well I'll start by saying it of course feels good to see the men in maize and blue lift the jug.
There are many words and phrases (cyclical, yin-yang, law of averages) for it but I chose a common one Karma. As a fan of this team and watching football for many years, I've seen some heartbreaking games and endings. I've also seen some exhilarating ones.
As a kid, I remember well the Colorado hail mary. But then we had one of the greatest defensive (mostly) players EVER to play the game lead us to a national championship. We had to survive a hail mary in the Rose Bowl (yes it wasn't in the endzone and yes it was OPI, but still) to acheive this, but the championship is ours.
Yes The Horror was...well horrible. But Akron would also have been very painful if not for an overthrown pass to end the game.
The entire Hoke Era had a lot of downs, but a few bounces that went our way helped with the Sugar Bowl trophy in Schembechler Hall.
Now would also be the time to add the UTL was one of the most amazing games I've ever seen.
Yes, 2 weeks ago was horrible, but Dileo making the perfect play to set up the game winning field goal in 2012 doesn't happen every time.
I would of course have loved to see the 2 point conversion work in The Game in 2013, but how many times did we destroy their season in the 90's?
Wanna bitch about bad luck? I doubt you'd get a sympathetic ear from a NW fan after time expiring field goal that probably shouldn't have worked.
So yes, I was gutted 2 weeks ago. That sucked. But I (like many it seems here), knew that U-M played a great game many would feel (IMO rightly so) deserved to win that game. But there will be many Gophers tonight that feel (IMO rightly so) that they have every reason to win the Jug.
I guess the point of my soapbox rant, is that as a sports fan there will be many highs and many lows & of course we'd prefer fewer of the ladder, but c'est la vie. Try not to get too low with crappy loses, try not to get too high (unless you live in WA or CO), and enjoy the ride. We got the Jug!
OK I'll quit drinking and go to bed now (well, in a few minutes...GO OWLS)
Last thing-I'm too young for examples from the Schembechler Era, but would appreciate any input from the more experienced fans.

Out played UM all night long. If they would have played for TD's instead of FG's they would have won by 2 touchdowns. Moreover, if Jerry Kill was on the field the mismanagement of the clock wouldn't have happened and Minn would of won.
UM won the game, but everyone got to see they are frauds. Complete frauds. Pathetic. OSU is going to have Harbaugh Crying.
Jim Kelly once called Harbaugh a " cry baby" . He was right then and is still right today. I've never seen such whining in my life. Be a man Jimmy !!

Butthurt M won huh? Cool story bro, but you come across as a bit nervous about M.
Glad your Har-boner has got you spending time out of your day posting on an M blog about him.

Nice try Sparty. Your posting history shows exactly who you are.

So when Michigan hangs in for a big win against a lesser opponent, we're total frauds, but of course when OSU does it, like against NIU and Indiana, you'd probably just spew some crap about OSU being a tough, gritty football team that plays all 60 minutes and never quits, right?

had quite a few plays on offense where they got lucky with the ball going their way..tipped passes, near pick sixes etc etc....Yes Minnesota played extremely well in that game but something had to go Michigans way and it happened in the last 20 seconds

F you - and EVERY other one of you - that think clicking on the comments to post tl;dr makes you the cool kid.
Let me break this to you not too gently - you're bores, and boors. Spare us in the future, ok - please... contribute something or don't bother us!

If Karma is the driving force at play, where is the lack of retribution payed to Sparty? There is no more deserving team of multiple dong punches.

Karma fell on Minnesota. They had it coming.

Yep. Eventually Jerry Kill's health issues would prove to be too much.
November 1st, 2015 at 12:03 AM ^
Minnesota played out of their minds today. However those first three quarters, they received an uncomprehensable amount of good luck. I've never seen anything like it. We were more than due some good luck, and we cashed it all in for those last 19 seconds.
November 1st, 2015 at 12:33 AM ^
the clock management and playcalling were awful at the last drive. After the catch (and review), Minnesota had time to get 3 plays off and then go for a FG. Instead they slowed down and shift then pass play to let it all go down to 2 second. Then a really bad play call for a QB sneak for a win. Should've gone for a FG to tie the game when you're at home and you have 3rd string QB playing against you.
Awful game management and playcalling by the Minnesota coaching staff all around.

we finally got a break. we were dead and buried, then the football gods finally threw us a bone
October 31st, 2015 at 11:59 PM ^
Yes. When they scored with 19 seconds left, I had the same feeling I've had for about 6 of the last 7 years and started questioning why I subject myself to life as a football fan. And then - as you put it - the football Gods threw us a bone. The Gods must've looked deep in the souls of all Michigan fans and said, "Yeah, I think these poor bastards have suffered enough."
October 31st, 2015 at 11:40 PM ^
But there wasn't much luck involved in the last couple minutes. There was terrible playcalling and time management by minn. There was stout D by M on the goal line. There wasn't any fluky shit.
But yes, it feels damn good to be on the winning end of a close road game against a quasi-rival for a damn cool trophy. As others have said throughout the board tonight...these games just haven't been going our way for a while.
But no "karma" or anything like that.

I felt pretty lucky when the Gopher receiver put a knee down a fraction of a second too soon. I had thought the game was over at that point.
November 1st, 2015 at 12:05 AM ^
I get it, but that's just a standard football play you see all the time... A knee going down just before the line to gain. It's not like he slipped or something else unfathomable happened.
November 1st, 2015 at 7:02 AM ^
Maybe it is because the majority of my life, football did NOT have instant replay, that when what looks like a touchdown reception in real time gets called back because of a downed knee a fraction of a second before the plane of the end zone is broken, detectable only with instant replay...
... it feels lucky. Though perfectly legit in 2015 football.
We thought we were getting Spartied all over again.
Great goal line stand afterwards, though. Brilliant.

State is winning the national title as long as they continue to blow the refs who will in turn blow the officiating for the next six weeks.
Banking on phantom targeting calls becomes State's centerpiece strategy in its quest for the NC!

State will get blown away by quality teams. They got as close as they were going to get: now it's time to go back into obscurity.

Get used to THAT.
