I don't know. Sometimes when i eat certain beans, or a lot of hot sauce, or Taco Bell, they sure feel hotter than 98.6

Does anybody else think Stafford's back is still bothering him?
August 17th, 2019 at 10:32 PM ^
Does anyone else think that the Lions should have traded Stafford for a bunch of picks before the draft and started all over?
August 17th, 2019 at 10:57 PM ^
No. Stafford is the only thing resembling a decent QB the Lions have had in my lifetime (and I'm 35) despite drafting several of them high. I'm cool keeping Stafford.
A high draft pick for the Lions just gets you a TE anyway.

Until this moment I hadn't thought of it, but I think MM was talking about himself.

The highest paid QB in the NFL, because he's "a decent QB", that's the Lions' problem right there. Stafford doesn't have that thing, whatever it is, that turns decent into a winner. He's not a leader, doesn't have that "it" factor that you see in Brady, Breeze, Wilson, Roethlisberger...even Mahomes or Luck.
I would rather they had taken Haskins and not signed Stafford to that ridiculous contract.
August 18th, 2019 at 7:56 AM ^
Don't forget Mayfield.
August 18th, 2019 at 8:17 AM ^
Stafford is the 8th highest paid QB in the NFL. Ryan, Cousins and Garoppolo are the 5th, 6th and 7th. Would you like any of these QB’s instead?
August 18th, 2019 at 8:26 AM ^
Depends on how you look at it, Stafford is the highest paid this year, at 29.5 million. I would rather they had taken a realistic option, like getting what they could get in trade, then going after a Haskins in the draft.
As a lifetime Lions fan, pointing at other bad QB contracts doesn't make me feel any better about Stafford.
August 18th, 2019 at 9:47 AM ^
It does depend on how you look at it, average salary vs. salary cap value. All boring stuff. Next year Stafford will not even be the top 1/3 of QB salaries.
I don't mean to argue with you over the value of Stafford. You're right, Stafford just doesn't have IT and maybe we would be better with Haskins. But how do you know whether Haskins has IT either. The Lions have a long way to go before the QB matters. And a lot of NFL Super Bowl winning QB's don't have IT either.
August 18th, 2019 at 9:51 AM ^
Yeah Stafford "doesn't have that thing" ......
competent ownership/ management
Just like Barry didn't have that thing either.
August 18th, 2019 at 12:31 PM ^
I somewhat understand what you are saying, but Berry DID have that thing. Yes, management/ownership lost in spite of it.
Stafford wouldn't have it, even if he played for the Pats.
August 18th, 2019 at 3:19 PM ^
So the guy who's thrown for the most yardage in their first 10 years, on the worst managed franchise of all time, with zero running game EVER, wouldn't be able to do the same for the best franchise.
Wow you crazy Lion's "fans" really do you hate your QBs.
What's your thought on the RedWings Goalie and Tiger's closer.
August 18th, 2019 at 4:55 PM ^
If only the winner of games was determined by "yardage", the coveted yardage trophy would then have value. I love this idea that criticism against Stafford can just be dismissed because "Lions fan". I also think that it's funny that we so easily blame the Lions management or ownership, like Brady would suck if he were in Detroit and Stafford would be a 6-time super bowl winner in NE. Maybe, just maybe...Brady is that good. He seems to take WRs that no one has heard of and turns them into big money free agents. Who has Stafford turned into a big time free agent.
If the Red Wings or Tigers become watchable again, I'll give you my thoughts on that.
August 18th, 2019 at 7:02 PM ^
O, I get it, you've never even seen Stafford play :)
How about 33 game winning drives, 26 comebacks
.....and the team has only won 66 since he's been there.
He's had to lead them on a game winning drive in half the wins they've had.
Brady has 44, 35 in 270 wins!
August 19th, 2019 at 8:04 AM ^
My goodness, the winning drives argument. Let's put it this way, I've watched enough of those games to understand that he wouldn't need winning drives, had he not turned the ball over or made poor decisions during the first 2 and a half quarters. Many of those games, the team was where they were...because he put them there.
So...I get it, you love you some Stafford. Fair enough. I'm not going to change your mind, you aren't going to change mine. Go BLUE!
August 19th, 2019 at 2:09 PM ^
Yes that makes perfect sense:
It's all his fault because he is horrible at executing a game plan, which routinely has him handing the ball off for a -1 yard loss, plus he must play every position on defense too because he is also responsible for all the points the opponent scores, and even though half the time they win it's because he has to execute, in the clutch, when the D can pin it's ears back, knows he's throwing ...but yeah he sucks!
That is some schizophrenic level cognitive dissonance there.
August 19th, 2019 at 10:07 AM ^
Don’t make the classic Lions’ fan mistake of using previous Lions’ QBs as the benchmark for what qualifies as a good QB. Stafford is mediocre and is just good enough to keep the Lions mired in mediocrity. You’re better off in the NFL going 2-14 than you are 8-8.
August 17th, 2019 at 8:42 PM ^
The Lions are my favorite piece of trash
August 17th, 2019 at 8:49 PM ^

The Lions are going to be bad... like 5-11 bad. They have no talent and a coach who is in over his head.
August 17th, 2019 at 9:03 PM ^
I’m not a Lions fan but when the owner shoves Darrel Bevel down your throat like he’s a savior you can only do so much..I feel bad for Patricia he’s got no juice, Bill Parcels said “if you want me to chef a great meal then let me pick out the groceries”
August 17th, 2019 at 9:59 PM ^
I think we can all agree that Patricia is very good at Buying groceries and consuming them.
August 17th, 2019 at 10:54 PM ^
Wait? Are you saying the Lions are gonna lose this year because Patricia eats the players?
Well, at least that's a new one.

Right. And they drafted a TE in the first for an OC who couldn't figure out how to use Jimmy Graham.

thats because jimmy graham is overrated as fuck. aaron rodgers hasnt figured out how to use him eithwe

August 18th, 2019 at 9:10 AM ^
The fords have run this organization into the ground REPEATEDLY!!! Why any rationale human being would be a fan of this incompetent organization is beyond reason.
We deserve better than this nonsense. Go Pats!!!

The Lions franchise should be confiscated by the government for the greater good citing eminent domain.

They should of moved Stafford to Denver when they had a chance. Denver was offering up a nice package for him.

I'm in Denver and I never heard of that.
August 17th, 2019 at 11:16 PM ^

I think he's referring the Stafford for Cutler deal that was supposedly in the works. That was a long time ago.

Lions coach is such a nerd ...he coaches from the "waterboy position"!

I feel like the Lions have been to the playoffs as many times as the Cowboys have in my years as a cognizant sports fan.
August 18th, 2019 at 1:46 AM ^
I thought this was an odd post. So I looked it up:
Lions playoffs since the Fords screwed up the team (12 appearances):
1970 (against your Cowboys)
1982-3
1991 (against your Cowboys)
1993-5, 1997, 1999
2011
2014 (against your Cowboys)
Cowboys playoff history (33 appearances):
1966-7, 1969, 1970-3, 1975-1983, 1985, 1991-6, 1998-9, 2003, 2006-7, 2009, 2014, 2016, 2018

Looks like his cognizant sports fandom began in 2011.
