Oops.  Khamari, with a silent H.

Anyway, top-400 2023 recruit out of Cass Tech.  #8 recruit in the state on the composite.  Ranked as a TE, but could play DE.  I thought he had a crystal ball to UM, but I can't find that now.

Eh, we have Rappleyea in the class already and took 2 TEs in 2022. TE isn't a position I'm overly worried about in terms of talent, development, or depth

I think they are looking to take 2 TE this class as well, but there are higher rated/guys they have higher on the board there than Khamari. Same at DE, the other position he could play. They are going after some big fish on the Edge.

At the moment, I dont think Anderson was a priority. There's plenty of time in the recruitment, but I kinda doubt it picks up past this unless UM misses elsewhere.

If this program is going to take the next step they have to shore up in state recruiting which has been pretty lackluster the last couple of years.   Way too many of the top kids in state are going elsewhere.

This program taking the “next step,” will have very little to do with getting mid 3-low 4 star in-state players… not sure where you’re going with this, but that’s NOT where we’re lagging behind teams like Georgia.

There have generally been “reasons” we haven’t gotten the few high ranked kids. We’ve also gone out and gotten adequate replacements for those kids.

The dreaded double post. I guess I’ll add that the “next step” is going to require getting more top 100 recruits out of recruiting hotbeds. We aren’t a mid-three star from Grand Rapids away from being competitive with the likes of Bama and Georgia.

As much of a feel-good story as getting the homegrown talent is, a three star TE whose next best offers are USC, Pitt, Indiana and Cincy isn’t going to be the difference. And of the actual high ranked players to go elsewhere, you’d have a difficult time finding major contributors from that group.

We need top kids in the state if they are top kids in the country too.  He’s in the top 400 nationally and not at a position of need.  He might be a great player at the next level but it’s not like Bama just stole a top kid from our backyard.  I hope this kid lights it up, but I don’t think letting him get away is a recruiting failure.

The state of Michigan isn’t a exactly a hot bed for producing college football players losing out on some run of the mill top 400 recruit isn’t the problem. In case you didn’t notice UGA’s TE was a freshmen and faster than our corners. He visited Michigan we should have gotten that kid and others like him to commit. Getting a kid like this is status quo over the last 7 years. If you wanna go to the next level getting 10 top 100 players every year is that. Till then recruiting Michigan just to recruit it, Is stupid.

I'm not sure I'm really buying that he wasn't that high on the board.  Of the offers that are out who are we looking good for??

I'm not particularly worried but just curious who people think are the leading prospects that we have a good shot with.

I looked at that and my first reaction was that we didn't really look like we were in a strong position with anyone besides Zinter, hence the question.

If Zinter is the better prospect over Anderson, then it kind of makes sense.  I also keep forgetting how early it is.  But, the early signing period is here before you know it.

They have higher guys on the board and want to go for them. Maybe at the moment, UM isnt looking good for these players as they were with Anderson, but taking Anderson after taking the TE commit they already have, knocks them out of the running for a top TE.

Boards are fluid, and right now, it doesnt seem Anderson was high enough on the board for them to take him at risk of not landing someone they feel is better. If they miss out on other options, they can likely circle back to Anderson and have a chance to flip if they decided they need a second TE still.
